Fan Controller

Posting for a friend who has a 2002 Newmar Dutch Star. We’ve looked and looked and cannot find a fan controller unit anywhere. The fan spins at what some call “fail safe mode” I’ve read that the ECM controls the fan speed. If that is the case should he take it to Cummins and have them look at the ECU? There are 2 big hydraulic lines that run from the pump motor to a box but there are no electric wires anywhere. Am I missing something here? My coach 2003 American Tradition same chassis and has a controller. (Scratches head)

If anyone can help that would be great.
Moe

His probably doesn't have a two speed fan. It just runs on high all the time. In that year range they weren't putting on the two speed fan. In the newer models I think they started using two speed fans which like you said are controlled by the ECM. My 2000 doesn't have it either. He can do an upgrade and have one installed. I think it's a little over a $1,000 to do it.

By chance do you know what type of upgrade it is?

I don't know what all is involved. The best thing to do is call Spartan. They make these modifications all the time.

Not sure I’m right, but think Source Engineering in Oregon has a wax valve speed controller for hyd fan cooling systems. Might check with them.

I'll second Source Engineering. They've developed a variable speed controller. It just depends if theirs will fit. They're also a sponsor on IRV2.com

I called Source Engineering the only way for the wax valve to work is if I already have a FCU. Apparently spartan makes a mod I’m going to give them a call and touch back.
