Fantastic Vent covers brittle and cracking

I bought 3 Ultra Breeze Vent Covers from Fantastic for my Ventana and installed them in May 2016. I have replaced all 3 (one in December and the other 2 original ones today) because they have gotten brittle and cracked. We are full timers, so they are out in the weather every day.

The cracks were on the top corners (vent side) and along some of the connection slots along the bottom. My color was "smoke". I had no issues getting replacements from Fantastic (they have a 2 year warranty), but I don't want to do this every year. Has anyone else had this problem? Does the color make any difference (we could go with black or smoke)? Other recommendations for vent covers?

I have always had white. 10+ years on my last set but the three on this coach are maybe 6 months old. I'm just guessing here but I suspect the darker (either smoke or black) do age out faster. But only one year is ridiculous.

Have had no problems in 3 years, but we have a cover over them.

This is a fact of life and due to someone in the finance dept who said "lets only use enough UV protector to get then over the warranty." So many RV parts are like that. 2 things that work for me.
1- Use Vent covers and get references saying that they last. I bought these almost ten years ago and they are still good. They still sell them.

They are easier to replace than the original vents if they do go bad.
2-Paint everything that is plastic. White rustoleum works for me. Paint before installing then add another layer yearly. Also paint shower skylight, fridge vent, roof fan covers and anything else you can find because they will all crack and then blow off in a rain storm.

The "smoke" version did not have UV protection and mine fell to pieces in 6 months. The replacement is "gray" and they are standing up well.

On the '02 DSDP I had the insulated covers for many years and they were still good when we traded it off in 2015. The present Magna came with the insulated covers and are still good after my two years of ownership. No idea if they were replaced before we got it though.

I bought mine over three years ago (smoke) and they are still in great shape. I remove them once a year and clean the vent lid and interior of the cover. Maybe you just got a bad lot.

After a hailstorm in Oklahoma took out all 3 of my vent covers, I replaced them with polycarbonate lids.

https://smile.amazon.com/Camco-40161...=rv+vent+cover

Three weeks later we were in a massive hailstorm with 3" hail that took out many windshields, RV roofs and everything else up there made of plastic. Mine survived! That was over 3 years ago and they are still in great shape.

Smoke vent Covers

Just to clarify, the Ultra Breeze covers I am referring to are not the "flat" ones that come standard with the coach but are an accessory that go over the flat ones and allows them to stay open while driving and in the rain.

I checked the Fantastic web page and all three colors (white, black, and smoke) all have UV protection. I hope, as one poster thought, that the first ones I bought are from a bad batch and the new ones will provide many years of service.

Here is the link to the Fantastic site if you are interested - Fan-Tastic Vent's OEM Vent Covers

"woodosgood".....Yes, mine are the Fantastic Fan brand. I bought them because they were easily removable for cleaning (four clips).
