Fare thee well

I leave Newmar, after joining 10 years ago, with mixed feelings. You members of the forum have been great and supportive. At times I was panicked about an issue, but most were resolved. But, after moving from Fort Myers to Phoenix, it became evident that I was no longer in Newmar country, and repairs and service meant driving to Tucson, to a non-Newmar dealer. So, I switched brands, and hope my experiences with the new forum, and the new coach, continue my enthusiasm for adventure.

To bad your Newmar needed to be near a dealer.
I bought my Discovery used back in 2002 and have never needed to take it back to a dealer.

RV repair places near Phoenix
I Found 10 close by that could probably fix most things in a Newmar.

I bought my Newmar from a guy (on this forum) from Tuscon. He brought it to Phoenix for service.

What coach did you get?

I don't have a Newmar dealer anywhere near me. However, I found a good RV mechanic nearby and he has been able to do everything I've needed done.

I have never been near a Newmar dealer and don't know what one looks like. I use various truck and Rv service centers and save money when doing so. Can't afford Cummins and can't talk to the mechanics so use shops where I can see what they are doing and can talk directly to the mechanic.

Judging by the responses so far, I guess I'm not the only one who was confused as to why you'd switched brands just because you couldn't find a Newmar dealer nearby.

I was doubly confused since RV'ing is so popular here in the desert southwest that you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a dozen very good shops / mechanics within a comfortable driving radius in just about any direction.

But, if you like your new RV and it's working for you, congratulations! I hope it brings you all the fun and enjoyment of your last RV

I guess it was the failure of multiple dealers, mobile mechanics, and rv shops in the Phoenix area, over the course of several years, to fix/adjust/ repair the Essex. I found a mechanic in Tucson who was excellent, but was not too crazy about the trip, but still did it. If need be I'll return to him, but will try the Winnebago dealers/service closer to home first,

Well, that would be disheartening, I agree, and I'm sorry for your trouble and I'm glad you were able to find a replacement that works for you

Hope it works well. Know about poor maintence, enough to make ya want to spit. please stop in and let us know how it works out. I think a lot of folks believe that if they just bought brandX that their problems go away. Would be good to get some real life experience. I bought a limited production class C as my first RV. Never had a significant issue with it. They only allowed warranty work at independant RV repair centers, rarely at a dealer. Am hoping our, soon to be owned Newmar, replicates the experience.

That being said, I agree with other posters; dealers, even Newmar dealers, are the least likely to provide quality service. They are set up first to sell coaches and their service departments are mostly just window dressing. As has been said on other topics, follow the money When I do get my new Newmar I plan to drive the 180 miles to a service center that is top rated. Just me I guess.

I agree...it IS quite difficult to find a competent service center. I just left a dealer here in Ohio who did diagnose a bad roof air unit but was clueless on how to reset ( again...for the third time...) my gray tank sensor settings. They had neither the instrumentation nor the knowledge to know what they needed to do...I don't think they believed me when I told them they were on the wrong track and I wouldn't pay for what they tried to do.

Previously, I tried Coachlight...they were booked out, a place in Little Rock, Oklahoma City and a couple others. Bottom line...ALL are booked way out and very few really know the specific Newmar product, even though they are listed on the Newmar site. So if one finds a good shop/ mechanic, treat 'em right, because these guys really are hard to find.

So, Desert Autoplex, a Newmar dealer, in Mesa didn't give good service? That is good to know. Were you taking it to Freedom in Tucson?

No, I was taking it to LaMesa in Tucson. Scott is the Tech, Joseph is the Service Advisor. BTW, when I was having trouble with my optional rear view camera, they got the guy who was developer/President of the company to come in and fix it (just saying).

Bob, sorry to see you leaving the Newmar family. Good luck with your Winnebago Grand Tour. I love Winnie floor plans.
