Fast Idle

Recently, I have lost the ability to fast idle my Cummins 400 ISL like I have been able to for the past year.

I was able to press (on the cruise control pad) "on/off", then "res" and the idle would go to 1,000 rpm. Now it barely goes up 100 rpm.

A friend told me he pushes on the accelerator and when rpm reaches 1,000 he presses the "set" button on the cruise control pad and it holds the 1,000 rpm. I tried this and it worked for me, too.

But, why has the first method changed?

I press "on" then "set" twice and my rpm's go to 1000.

Try pressing the "Resume" and holding it in. The RPM should increase and keep doing so as long as you hold the button in. To reduce the set idle hold the "Set" button.
