Filter Minder on DSDP 4018

Our DSDP 4018 has only 3,200 miles on the odometer but the Filter Minder (for the airflow) is telling me it's about time to change the air filter. The filter looks brand new (as it should). We checked another brand new Newmar coach on the dealer's lot and it had the same symptoms (filter minder 3/4 of the way to the top).

Has anyone else experienced this on their Dutch Star?

Push the button on the bottom to reset the Filter Minder, then check it again after you run the engine.

Fi!ter minders are notoriously unreliable.Check for the small vacuum hose being kinked from the gauge to the air intake pipe.If not collapsed or kinked,I would rely on a 2 year change interval on the filter unless frequently driving in dusty conditions.Decreased turbo boost could also be a sign of a dirty air filter.

I did this three times on our last trip and the damn thing pops right back up after a short drive.

On our 04 Essex with 500 ISM engine the air filter reminder would read in the read even with a new air filter. Problem was the air hoses going to the turbo had to many 90 degree turns and went from 7 inches to 5 inches. Turbo boost was down compared to other Essex owners. Went to a K&N/AFE air filter and all is well. Did this 10 years ago and 115K miles. This air filter is serviceable and pick up 3 psi turbo boost with the change. Worth checking out.

Our filter minder on our '02 DSDP always read around 15 with a new filter. Just too much restriction in the intake tract. Was planning on going to larger tubing but traded the rig off before I did it.
Our present rig reads "0" no matter what. Took the fittings apart and found that there are two sintered metal filters in the fittings. I was in a campground with a "no working on your rigs" rule and right out in the open so I put it back together and need to work on it some more.

Do you do regular oil analysis on your ISM?

You can do your yourself a huge favor and just ignore the filter minder. It's a totally useless item. Change your filter out every 15K or two years and you'll be fine. You really shouldn't be inspecting filters and taking a chance on introducing dirt. You should only deal with them when replacing them on a schedule.
