I think a bunch of us have Newmar rigs that are in the 3-4 year old range that use Final Charge engine coolant.

Just a reminder, it's time to add a quart of Final Charge Extender to the your Final Charge cocktail. I just added a quart to mine, no blender necessary.

Jeff - am I missing something? This is off the Final Charge Extender page referenced. I have NOWHERE near 300,000 miles on my engine.

Quote:
Quantity of FINAL CHARGE Extender
needed at 300,000 to 400,000 miles of on-road use (6 years or 12,000 hours of off-highway use) without the use of Supplemental Coolant Additives (SCAs)

I recall reading in my owners literature that the extender should be added after 3 years, but naturally I can't find it now.

Continue reading that link above which is quoted below - especially the end.

"To maintain the protection provided by FINAL CHARGE Global Extended Life Coolant, FINAL CHARGE Extender should be added to cooling system at 300,000 to 400,000 miles of on-road use (3 years or 6,000 hours off-highway use).:

Before going off about the off road part consider this. Most literature for our big engines is geared toward truckers who rack up miles before they rack up time. Mohos do the opposite, time before miles and are a (inconsequential) fraction of their product market. You often have to look in the details or use the literature as 66 points out from our moho manufacturers to find the "time before miles" recommendations. It's a grey area for sure.

Kinda like chassis lube and engine oil. No way most will drive a moho far enough, but we do it annually anyway. Yeah, engine oil can accumulate acids and stuff but this is a pretty grey area as well.

BTW Spartan will recommend extender at 3 years as well. They have it. About $20/qt.

Yup! Good tip. I did mine a few weeks ago. My rig "only" has ~14k miles, but I took a week or so and went through to:

- Changed hydraulic fluid and filter
- Changed fluid in cooling fan gearbox (I sure hate that thing!)
- Coolant filter
- Changed the trans filters and fluid (fluid isn't called to be done until next year, but it didn't feel right to only the filters )
- Air desiccant filter
- Flushed and filled front wheel hubs and tag hubs
- Drained/filled rear diff
- Usual oil change/lube (amazing how much grease those driveshafts take over ~6 months -- check often!)
- Fuel filter -- pre-filled with Sea Foam
- Full generator service
- Chassis air filter

Lots to do. I'm obsessed with maintenance -- it's a sick game of sorts.
