First oil change (for me) on my DP

I had my oil changed by a local service shop this weekend. I purchased the oil and filter as recommended in my Operation and Maintenance Manual. As the technician was under the rig removing the filter and oil lug, he mentioned there was another filter. There is no mention of this (that I can find) in my manual. Can someone enlighten me as to this 'other' filter? It is not the fuel filter...I verified that.

1999 Newmar DS (Spartan with Cummins ISC300)

Now....back to the manual in search of belt #s for replacement.

Thanks in advance!

Roger

Probably the Coolant Filter. Call Spartan 800-543-4277 with your VIN NUMBER handy and they can give you a list of all your filters.

Had the same service done on my 6.7 cummins last week and the extra filter on mine was the water seperator. Oil filter; water seperator; chassis lube. Also had the generator service which included filters for the oil; fuel and air.

Roger, because of the different configurations especially on your serpentine belt get the number off the back of the belt. It's the best way to know which one you need. My serpentine belt broke a few yrs ago and I found out there were three different belts for my engine.
Welcome to the Newmar family!!

Roger, Welcome to irv2, and the Newmar family. You can add the Spartan/Cummins info to your signature line and avoid typing it in on your future postings.
Keep the phone number for the Spartan Motorhome Support in your note book. They may be able to help with a belt # too.
Water separator or coolant filter are both possibilities.
As a four year owner of a DSDP, a little warning I'll give you up front, as you learn about your coach, keep notes on everywhere you see fuses for your 12v systems. I've found 4 chassis fuse locations and 8 for coach related items, and I'm not sure if I've found them all.
The two previous owners had kept all the manuals for the coach so if you're short any just ask. Some of the component manufacturers are no longer in business , so, no info on the net.
Again Welcome, and enjoy your travels in your Newmar.

Thanks Skip. Funny you should mention the fuses. None of my basement lights are working on the passenger side of the rig (driver's side is fine). I've verified the bulbs are good, so started looking for a fuse. Have found 3 fuse boxes (bedroom, under dash and in outside compartment in back), but none that mention anything about the basement lights. The search goes on....

Thanks all, for the responses.

Thanks Tony. I retrieved the number off of the 'small' belt, but the larger belt has no information on it.

Now you've got me thinking, mine all work, except the engine bay, need a water proof assembly for there. I've never seen one for those lights either. I guess it's back to crawling around and checking notes.

Here is a link that may find your fuse locations for wrap lights.

Thanks 007, this is helpful. Although the year range is different than my rig, the fuse panels are in the same place as indicated in the document.

Our 1999 MA cummins 330 isc has a coolant filter, oil filter, 2 fuel filters, 3 (stacked) Hyd filters, air line filter, and intake air filter. There are "units" associated with the coolant replacement filters ( 1-4 typically) based on your coolant additive readings.

Roger most of these type of items stay the same over the years for locations but they can add fused items to newer coach's but most location will stay the same.

Wow, how it went from a second filter to fuses to belts is funny.

If the filter you are referring to is a small filter right next to the large oil filter, that is the SCA coolant additive and filter. The coolant needs to be checked with a Cummins test strip and the filter changed to what is reflected on the test strip. A common change is the 4 SCA filter when it is due.

They are a royal pain to change. I finally changed coolant to one with SCA for the life of the coolant and changed the filter to 0 additive. It is easier to add SCA than to change that filter. One of the worst designs Cummuns ever came up with. Glad the new engine doesn't have one.
