Hello, list.
In my new-to-me 2003 Scottsdale I have a Flexsteel recliner. I can't figure out how (or even if) the rocker part can be locked for travel. I know how to lock/unlock the base rotation pivot (more on that in a bit) and I know how to slide it forward/backward on the base, and of course I know how to recline it, but how in the heck do you lock the rocker? Called the dealer, said look for a lever behind the rear skirt. No such lever on mine anywhere underneath. Any ideas? Passengers would HATE to have a Granny-from-The Beverly Hillbillies ride in that thing going down the road.
On the subject of the base rotation pivot, when you lock it the recliner faces towards the sofa instead of forward. Dealer says this is the way it should be. I have trouble accepting this since when traveling you would want that recliner turned into a chair which means facing forward then locking EVERYTHING. Am I wrong? 'Twould be simple enough to unbolt the recliner, rotate 90 degrees right, then re-bolt, of course....

Mahlon

Mahlon, I'm pretty sure it will not stop rocking. Mine doesn't. I'm also pretty sure Newmar does not intend for anyone to sit there while under way, as they do not provide a seat belt. I think RVIA or some other agency requires seatbelts be provided at each position intended for use in motion. For example, there is a label on the wall by the dinette chairs stating not to sit there while Veh. is in motion. Sorry, as I'm sure this is not want you wanted to hear. Of course, I might be wrong too ED

Ahh, but the recliner (at least in my case) DOES have a seat belt.

Arrr, but mine has a belt also chair turn to front doesn't give enough room for person in seat to face the front. Will have to come up with something. ---"007"

Mahlon, you can not lock the recliner, my recliner has seat belts so you can seat in the chair legally going down the highway, you can turn the recliner in the direction of the passenger chair but there is not enough room to seat there comfortable. Ed.S

I called Flexsteel this morning on this. Very interesting conversation. I have some homework to do on this & then I need to call them back tomorrow to discuss further. More to come. Stay tuned.

Mine is also 2003 Scottsdale. My Flexsteel leather recliner chair has seat belts, but no way I have ever found to stop it from rocking when in motion except to block it with a phone book or something.

Flexsteel is sending me the parts for the rocker lock, gratis . It's supposed to lock when the chair is slid all the way to the rear.
I will have the parts in a couple of weeks, & will post the outcome here a couple of weeks after that.
The folks at Flexsteel seemed surprised that these parts were not on the recliner. Makes me think that Newmar removed them for some reason. Maybe I'll find out why after I try it out.
For the record, I have a model 283R recliner.

When we traveled with guests we would recline the recliner. Pry not the right thing to do, but it stopped the rocking. Now that I know there are parts I have a call into flexsteel. The RV furniture manufacturing is done here in Dubuque so if they need to see it I am right here. I will also keep you posted

We had the same problem in our 03 MACA - drove my smarter half nuts with the squeaking going down the road. The chair was really too big for the space provided as you could not turn it to face forward to look at the television and it was useless a passenger seat. We bit the bullet, removed it and installed an Ekorness Euro Recliner and Ottoman which has been transferred to a 2005 Itasca Meridian and thence to a 2005 Dutch Star. It is not intended as a passenger seat and is a much more comfortable chair giving us the option of moving it around when we are parked. Going down the road, it is just pushed back against the wall and secured with a strap bolted to the floor.

The # for the Dubuque Flexsteel office is 563-556-7730, I asked for the Motorhome furniture customer support. Colleen is the rep I talked to. You will need the Frame Ident tag info from the recliner. It is stapeled to the recliner or stuck in the spring frame.
