My husband and I are considering purchasing our first RV. Been researching on the net and just came back from the Tampa show. Went to see the Newmar and a couple others I was possibly interested in. Anyone have a 2006 #3744 that might want to share some info. Other considerations were Born Free 26 1/2, and Platinum 28. Was unsure about wanting to tow a car (if we went larger than a class C) since we've never rv'd before except many, many years ago. Everyone keeps telling us you can drive one in less than 1 hour and be comfortable. I think a 35' would probably be a good size for us if we go to an A.

Welcome clancyfox to irv2.
You are starting out correctly asking for answers before buying. Some people miss that part and just jump in over their heads. Alot of money involved and being comfortable with your purchase.
Newmar makes coach sizes from 33' to 39' in gas platforms which I think is what your interested in.
They also will range from high 90's to 200000's dependant on what model you want, also be careful to pick out a good Dealer .
There web sitehttp://newmarcorp.com/xq/asp.default/nav.home/pg.conten..._id.8/qx/default.htmwill give you info on all models that you maybe interested in with floorplans, options and pics.
You will see the base prices of coachs you can also go to Dealer web sites with links to them at the top of forums.
Good luck in your quest and feel free to ask as many questions you need to.

I've been told to expect that when purchasing an RV that I should expect to be able to receive 20-30% discount off the retail price. Any comments?

That is generally correct. Seems the most common deals done are 25 - 26%. From what I have gathered, don't do a deal less than 24%.

You can get 28-30% generally closer to a model year changeover. If it is not, then ask yourself why the good deal. Probably not a good product/value proposition in general and it is not moving.

Larger dealers generally give better prices as they get "hidden" volume kickbacks from the factory.

With the exception of a few service superstar dealers, my learnings from this forum are shop on price across a large geopraphic base and use the factory for service & repair when possible.

Some folks are buying at 27% to 28% off list, and a few folks buying at wee bit more than 28% off.

You can get 27% to 28% off from several of the well known dealers without any trouble at all.

When I join the Workhorse site and was directed here I remained a guest for a while also in the SUMMER of 04. Thats when I said there must be a better way, I did not just drive my coach in weather.
The answer is in "FIND" JUST TYPE "workhorse power downs" you will find the answer the fix is easy and costs $15 at Auto-Zone.

We have have completed our orientation on our new Kountry Star 2007 KSDP 3916 This is our second having traded a 2000 KSDP 3565. Everyone should drive a Newmar product. Heading to GA in a few days with many more horses under the hood and looking forward to getting this down the road!!

My only point of concern was the Atwood Level-leg system and the reliability. Anyone have experience with Atwood?

Hello neighbors! I too have been a member for a short while and just "lurking" around. I was referred to this site from one of the members at the Yahoo groups Newmar site; Newmar owners group where I am an active member.

I have a 2004 MADP and have over 25years of Marine/Aviation/Auto/Truck mechanical experience and have owned Class C and Bus conversion in the past. I look forward to sharing any knowledge I might have and look forward to learning and getting to know all of you.

Have a great day,

Tim---Battle Ground WA

I just found this site and forum the other day and after looking around a while it wasn't difficult to want to "jump in." Lots of excellent information. Just need to get familiar with how things are organized. We've been motorhoming for almost 4 yrs. now jumping from riding a motorcycle and pulling a camper to our DSDP. We knew what we wanted and found this unit privately. The first and only one I test drove. Imagine that. We were not interested in an exhaustive hunt. I've been upgrading with some additional wood trim inside and we've been very happy with our venture so far.
Hope to run into some of you folks on our travels!

Tony
