A few years ago, when we were silly enough to stay up north for the holidays in our fiver before heading south for the winter, we experienced some 20's and 30's. To keep from burning through a bunch of propane we would place a ceramic heater in the lower compartment and set it on 50 degrees. It wouldn't heat the living area but it would take the chill off the floors and help keep things from freezing below. We also had a heated water hose so that was never an issue.

We live in southern Idaho and decided NOT to winterize our Bay Star due to 3 trips in November, Dec and January. I am lucky enough to have the RV stored indoors (just an unconditioned fully closed bay). After all the reading I have done here on iRV2 I am plugged in to 110 power, set the thermostat to 42 degrees for the furnace and opened ALL the cabinet doors and even some drawers. The garage bay itself has stayed in the high 30’s to about 40 degrees.

After really cold temps averaging about 30-35 daytime and high teens to mid 20’s for the last month or so, I can report on each inspection (every couple of days) all is fine. Yes I left fluids in all the tanks and have barely used a third of a tank of propane in almost two months.

We are shoving off on January 6th (big western loop) and did not want to winterize for just a few weeks in between trips.

Related question, but with the Oasis system

We are full-time and currently in TN for another week or so. Then it is off to Gaffney, SC for CF II and service....then to Nappanee for a month. I anticipate being able to head south mid February.

We never anticipated being in a cold climate yet here we are...this is our first year full time in an RV in these low temps (scheduled overnight single digits for 1/1/18).

The Oasis is working beautifully. I am amazed at how well insulated the coach is.

Can you run the Oasis too much? It comes on a few times an hour when the furnace kicks on. I did the annual maintenance on it just before this trip.

Should I worry about fuel consumption? The tank is a little less than half on a 100 gallon tank.

We are on 50A with the burner and ACII on (Since that is what DSD does )

When we first got to TN we used only the burner and not the AC until I read DSD post and did notice the burner kicking on less with the AC elements on.

Any other cold weather suggestions?

Well, we're back and the plumbing survived. Set the furnace at 50 degrees and unhooked the water hose. But, temps we're nearly as cold as predicted so it may not have mattered.
