Check the coolant these smaller refrigerators use. Some are hydrocarbon based. (flammable).

Fridge, batteries & charger

I to have the standard size residential fridge in my CS 3513. I replaced the 4 12volt batteries with 4 Lifeline GPL-6CT (the tall boys) 6 volt batteries and upgraded the charger from the 60 to the 80 amp so I think I am set. We do like to dry camp and I think this will be the ticket. The batteries are very pricey but I think they are the best you can buy and should last a long time. I also bought a suitcase 200 watt solar charger so we'll see how it performs. THe batteries fit in the stock try but I had to move a grounding strap sideways to get the clearance. No biggie. Comments? Suggestions?

I've got the 45 amp version! I tried to upgrade but Newmar said no. We will upgrade at some point. Just another item on the laundry list.

We agree with others posting here. The 10cf Frigidaire with the 2 additional batteries and dedicated inverter works great. No dry camping here but when we’re packing for a trip I turn on the inverter, the fridge cools quick, we load it up and go with the fridge always on during transit. My wife is very pleased as it has plenty of capacity for the two of us, glass shelves, and good door storage. She also loves the room the pantry is afforded. In our floor plan it’s located in the fws, and when retracted the door will fully open for access.

Only comment would be to run both chargers, while on generator.

Your 600 AH of AGM batteries will easily charge at 25% of capacity ( 150 amps ). Running both will shorten generator run times. AGMs perform better when fully charged every few days.

This is from Lifeline Technical manual.

The charging current during the Bulk stage should be set as high as practical; higher current levels mean faster recharge time and less time for the plates to become sulfated. Due to the

low impedance design, LifelineŽ batteries can tolerate in-rush current levels as high as 5C

(500A for a 100Ah battery). The time to reach full charge at temperatures in the range of 20-

30°C (68 to 86°F) can be estimated from the following equation:

So you're saying run two changer/converters rather than replace the stock unit with a higher amp unit. So, like in my situation just install a second 45 amp charger for a total of 90 amps?

I'm saying you will do no harm charging them at 25% AH capacity.

As long as you use smart chargers, it won't matter how many you use to get there.

I'm glad you explained it I didn't quite understand. I think I will find a portable battery charger for dry camping purposes when running the generator. These are big heavy batteries hopefully they will work well.

I also see you're talking about AGM's and not typical flooded batteries. I didn't get that at first.

Just be careful not to exceed the max charging voltage. That will ruin them quickly.

Some stand-alone chargers can go beyond Lifelines recommended charging voltage of 14.3 volts @77°F.

Lifeline has specific charging instructions in there Lifeline Technical Manual.

We have the Whirlpool 19.9 Cu. Ft. fridge with 6 6V batteries and 2000 watt inverter. Love the extra space. Seems like this fridge is no longer put in Canyon Stars, really like the ICE on the door, which appears to be missing on newer models.

I asked for the 10 cuft Dometic/Norcold with the ice maker since it fit in the 8 cuft cutout. Newmar installed the Dutch Star std refrig with the ice maker and it sips propane, makes good ice, and runs on #5 all summer long with the milk at 34 degrees in the morning.

Is there any issue with the compressor surge current upon start-up? Does the inverter supply constant 110-120 V?

We had zero issues. We've boondocked for weeks and the fridge/inverter combo works great. It's a pure sine inverter and supplies good voltage.
