Frigidaire Convection Microwave Issues

Is anyone else having issues adjusting to the Frigidaire Convection Microwave in their motorhome? It seems if you try and bake things using the bake/brown conventional baking method things take forever or will get brown but not baked clear through. Even baking something as simple as cookies is not easy since they seem to be brown and dried out on the outside in order for them to be done in the middle. Were still learning but it doesn't seem nearly as user friendly as our GE convection in our old rv.

Ours sucked so bad, I paid Newmar to replace it with a GE Avantium.

Worth every penny.

Jack,

We had the same problem with ours and it was determined that the temperature did not go over 100 F and that Newmar had received a bad batch of ovens. Since Newmar was replacing quite a few of the units, and they were hard to come by, I offered to pay an up charge to any better unit but was told by the dealer that they had found a Frigidaire model and it was being installed.

Well, yes they replaced the unit with an older model which has been discontinued - can't down load a manual - and as of now, just waiting for Newmar to respond why they did that. Again I offered to pay an up charge.

Yep, next time we have our 2012 DSDP in Nappanee that's what I plan to do, unless the DW decides we need a new coach.

Jack and Janet --

There has been a lot of discussion about this issue on the Newmar Owners' Forum in the past year and a half. The advice given by PDR John above is the best that could be given -- just get the Frigidare changed out with the GE Advantium. We were lucky enough, with the great advice on this Forum, to know just before our coach went into production, that we needed to replace the stock Frigidare with the GE Advantium and we literally made the change in the order the day before the coach went into production.

FLSteve, who has the same coach we do and picked his up a week before we did in February, 2013, has had Newmar change out a total of three Frigidare units, all of which were bad. Finally, he got Newmar to ship him a GE Advantium unit which he installed himself in his Dutch Star. I know he and his wife are very happy with the GE unit.

There have been so many negative comments from Newmar owners on this Forum about the Frigidare, you really have to wonder why Newmar still insists on using them with the quality issues people have reported on for so long.

We had a GE Advantium in our '11 Ventana 3433 which we had before we ordered our '13 Dutch Star, and we loved it. I am glad that we got the sentiment of the Forum about the Frigidare in time to make the change in our order to have it replaced by the GE Advantium in our DS. We simply love the GE unit.

Ours will never get up to baking temperature. Using a good oven thermometer, we set the temp on 435 and it will almost get to 350. Kind of make baking hard. Next year we will start looking for a replacement.

millerj ... as you have read, you are definitely not alone here. I think you have probably even figured out what the next step should be!

As Deek mentioned we now have a GE.

Hi FLSteve,

Is the GE a simple swap or does it require cabinet modifications?

MJFZ ... mine was a simple swap out. But I do not have the GE Advantium model ... I have the GE Profile model. However, I would think the width is pretty standard. My cabinet opening is 30 1/4" wide and the oven is 29 3/4". Someone might be able to measure their Advantium model for you and post the width.

Approx. Dimensions (HxWxD)
16 13/32 H x 29 7/8 W x 15 3/8 D

I think when built in from the factory there is a slight adjustment to the cabinet depth, but PDRJohn had his swapped out afterwards and you cannot tell a difference.

Discontinued in 2012

We traded motorhomes in Oct of this year. We bought a 2014 canyon star. The convection oven did not bake good at all. I went through all the owner manuals and could not find one for it. I looked on line for one and found out the model at been dicontinued in 2012. I am planning a trip to the factory this spring for some bad places on the flooring. I wonder what newmar will do about the oven.

Rickey, I can strongly recommend that you go on record with Newmar customer service before your trip back to the factory and I am confident that you will not be the first. My initial factory install was the most current model number during assembly, but the replacement unit was an older discontinued model and for the past 4 weeks, have been waiting for a resolution.

After doing some research on the frigidaire web site I looked up the model number for each of the ovens and neither on is advertised as convection. Now I'm more confused and to make matters worst, Newmar offered the GE profile upgrade for an extra $1500 whereas I can buy and install the advantium myself for $900.

The saga continues.

I have a new 2014 Newmar Canyon Star 3956 with the following Frigidaire Microwave Oven. CFMV152CLBA.
After checking the Frigidaire web site it is listed a "Discontinued" Oh Boy. I have used the Microwave but not the Convection. I was wondering if we have the same model and if I ill have the same heating issues?
