Looks good !! ... thinking about re-doing mine to reduce box height and make left/right/center cabinets flush on the bottom. Right now the center (TV) cabinet is about 5 inches lower than the others.

With the shortened tv cabinet I am liking the extra windshield space. Also the rear view mirror is staying off so it will look much cleaner over all I think.

I've been thinking about ditching the mirror ... but I do like checking outside temp while driving. Mine is located such that the retracted slide blocks any view of the interior .... it's pretty much worthless.

Agree it is not that useful. I try to use it when I hear a door slam open or something that was not secured but with limited visibility I usually cannot see it. Was contemplating a pinhole type camera that others have discussed as a possible solution. Just not sure if there is a clean way to get this video feed into my current backup monitor.
On the temp and compass I may strip the mirror down and integrate the display into the new TV cabinet or as a small little display where the mirror was mounted. A small 3d printed enclosure should work well.

Thought about it but when I had my GMC Yukon mirror apart, the circuit board was really long. Haven't had this version apart yet. Also giving some consideration to trashing it (I use the compass on the GPS anyway) and moving the CCC2 (thermostat) down out of the cabinet. That would allow me to turn on/off the rooftop A/C while driving. And, I could check the room sensors while parked without opening and closing the cabinet door.

Face frame is made. Just needs finish applied. I was worried about a latch but the tv wants to naturally close. So some sort of magnet catch or a traditional RV drawer latch may be sufficient.

Very nice !!! .... I'm still thinkin'
I keep eyeballing the rearview mirror. I'm starting to like the idea of ditching the mirror and replacing it with the Dometic CCC2 thermostat from the cabinet above it.

Mirror is gone ... CCC2 is now accessible.

Shortening the cabinet is next.

Do you have any concern that the ambient temperature of the glass windshield will produce false temperature readings?

Nope .... all sensors are remote.

Anxiously awaiting Spk64's next installment.

Me to.....
But I am out of the country this week. So I will not be able to make any progress during the week.
I did order the MCD shades for the cockpit area before I left.

Front Tv Cabinet upgrade

Finally some progress again. After a week in China and another week trying to match up the finish with ordering test etc.... I finally found a good match for the existing cherry finish. With 15 year old cherry the variation was considerable depending on the sun exposure. I ended up with JE Moser Natural Antique Cherry water soluble aniline dye mixed 1oz dye to 1 quart water. This was sprayed on with a small HVLP conversion sprayer to provide an even tone. This will then get a coat of varnish to seal the dye and followed up with a lacquer.
Here is the new frame without the top coats along side the old TV frame and the old back cover that is actually faded from the sun.
The new finish is a nicely in between which is where majority of wood is.
You may wonder why may have spent so much time working on a good match. With the new shades I am going to need to new valances which will be mounted directly to existing woodwork.
