Our shade that unrolled is manual. The only motorized shades that we have are the black, sun visors in the front. Operated from a switch at the driver & passenger arm rest area. They don't actually come down far enough that they would be that hazardous if they unrolled.

The passenger & driver windows each have 2 shades, one scissor type mesh pull-down sun shade and a pull down "window shade" for privacy. It is the window shade that unrolled. My concern is the front window shade if it should unroll. We are now looking at what kind of brackets we could install that would be in a position to hold the shade should it decide to unroll, but be easily movable or re-movable so that operation when parked is not impaired.

Don called Newmar and described the event and the person he spoke with claimed they had had no problem with the front window shades, only a couple for the side windows. I prefer to believe he was not lying, just uninformed. I do believe this has disasterous possibilities and should be addressed. How would one pursue a safety recall?

For people with the newer front window privacy shade.

In reference the falling windshield shades my wife has crafted this simple and inexpensive solution.

She purchased two Air Dog Squeaker mini-tennis balls, 1 3/4 inch diameter, at a PetSmart, and squeezed them into the tracks below the shade's rollers and above the driver's line of sight. They're pliable enough to fit in when squeezed into place, then expand and hold fast. If the shade should fall the tennis balls are in tight enough to hold the shade up and out of the way. Only problem now is convincing the dog that these squeaking tennis balls are important
technical equipment.

Jack,
By no means cutting down your solution for this obvious design flaw....but I will be hard pressed to put tennis balls or any other Mickey Mouse fix to solve problems like this. Next we will be duct taping controls in place or maybe to keep the brake pedal from falling off.

I can't believe Newmar is not doing an urgent campaign to fix this problem. Someone is going to have an accident and this reeks of neglect. (actually not a bad way to get rid of a lemon rig if you know you won't get hurt) In my opinion there have been too many incidents of this flawed shade system failing while driving.

This is where we as users need to band together and demand action...
