I have as shown a 2009 Dutch Aire on the Spartan chassis. When fueling at the "big truck" pumps I have a problem with fuel blow back immediately after the pump shuts off. I have tried using the slave side filler, putting the nozzle in all the way, just barely in, at the slowest fill rate, taken it to a dealer and had filler and vent checked for kinks or such, and also Spartan had them check the cross over hose. They all say it is OK and I need to go to other low speed pumps. They also have suggested removing the off side fuel cap to vent better. My 1998 DSDP never had this problem and I always filled up at the high volume pumps for 6 years.
Am I the only one with this issue and if not what did you do to fix it.

clubmed98, I'm thinking that your new rig has a different inlet pipe or pathway than the DSDP and this is probably what is giving you this problem.
There are a number of Dutch Star owners here that may be able to assist you in achieving some closure on this issue.

Hi clubmed98,
Do you have the same problem when using the driver's side fueling port? I have this problem only when using the passenger side fueling port. The driver's side operates okay. Unfortunately, I never thought to have it looked at as I just never use the passenger side to deliver fuel to the coach.

I have more of a problem with that using winterized diesel fuel as it foams a *lot* more than summer blended diesel - and foam isn't able to properly backfill the shut-off pressure tube inside the nozzle, thus you get blowback. After the pump handle clicks off I wait about 60 seconds to let the foam settle and am then able to restart fueling for another 5 gallons or so - thats how much foam is in there. This is never a problem for me when using non-winterized diesel. I think some refiners/distributors use better/more anti-foaming agents than others too. I never have a problem using regular station nozzles since they arent able to produce the volume necessary to foam badly - only when using the BIG nozzles at truck stops does this happen to me occasionally.

I have used both fills with same result..not a foaming issue as it is full when it shuts off...it is a venting issue I think and was looking to see if any other Spartan/Newmar owners had same issue and if they or factory found a cure..I had idea old fill and new fill different but Q is what and how do you fix it..

Yup...I have the same problem...if you come up with a solution I would be interested in hearing it. For now i just have resigned myself to cleaning up the mess.

Came up with this kit to remove air in fuel tank to eliminate kick back & foaming.
Your tank looks like it has to be dropped.

I have the same problem on my '07 DSDP. No solution from me other than to guesstimate how much I am adding to the tank and really slow down when I get close.

didn't have the blow back. our problem was fuel sloshing down the side of the coach afterwards (and yes, the cap was on correctly).
Newmar paid to have the neck on both fuel fills changed to a different angle.

Are the gas caps vented? If so why would we need to add another vent, the opposite filling tube is a vent. Also isn't their a builin tank vent? The kit descibed eariler seems to remove any air gap at the top of the tank allowing you to "fill" the tank completely.

The issue is not filling tank all the way..the issue is that when tank reaches "full" and shuts off the nozzle it burps back about 1/4 cup of fuel...after dealer looked at fillers and vents and cross overs and discussed with newmar or spartan they said all is fine but maybe you need to open other side fill cap. this indicates to me they feel vents are not releasing air fast enough as you fill and thus the trapped air blows back with fuel..so looking to see if others had problem and what they did or had done to fix..removing off side cap is not a solution it is a work around..the caps are the original and are the usual click-able type..not sure if i would call that vented or not
