Fuel Mileage
Recently purchased a 1999 38' Dutchstar with 300 Cummins. Very happy with coach but somewhat concerned with less than 8mpg on recent trip (all interstate). Interested in others experience re fuel consumption

MPG? What's that? :>)
FWIW... 8mpg is a "good" figure and pretty much about average for any dp.

Mine is 40ft (~35k lbs incl toad, w/330 Cat), so there may be slight differences, but I've averaged about 7.4 or so over the last 12K miles (about 80% interstate). In my record keeping I allow 0.6 g/hr for generator usage. I cruise at 1750-1800 rpm, and on flat ground this gives me 64-65 mph.

My previous MH was a 38 ft with a 350 Cummins.....averaged 7.3. 8 MPG is good, keep the weight down with the 300 and you should be fine. More weight carried less MPG.

Keep the weight down and the speed 60 MPH or less for best fuel mileage.

My '07 DSDP has a 400 cummins and about 7.2 average is the best I ever do.....

I have an 03 Fleetwood Discovery with a 330 Cat. I tow a VW Passat and have the genny on all the time when not plugged in. I average about 8 mpg... Which is a whole lot better than my boat that burns 30 gallons an hour doing 20 knots an hour (roughly 21 miles). 8 will sound REAL good after that! 
Oh yeah... And I drive 70+ mph on the highway...

Do the math.....
If you compare the weight of the highest MPG hybrid to the weight of your coach you find that you get better pound-miles per gallon.
I calculated that my coach is several times MORE efficient at moving pounds down the road than a Prius.
See, it's all in how you look at it.
7 MPG ain't bad, for a house!

I normally wait til winter, when we're stopped after traveling all summer to do my mpg. After going from Mesa, AZ., to Alaska, then to Florida for the winter in our 2000 Dutch Star pusher, my mpg came out to 9.75, and we were pulling a towed. To say the least I was thrilled.

Equation with several variables... 1.) speed: greater than 60, MPG down proportionately; 2.) Wind... out of your control but big impact (plus and minus); 3.) Transmission selected to "Economy Mode"; 4.) topography... live with it; 5.) Gross Weight: Toad, fuel water, luggage load out ETC
Some you can control some you tolerate... the biggest factor is the speed you choose to drive at!
