OK, I hope I am describing this well. Diesel fuel nozzles are already larger than gasoline ones. But, every once in a while we pull into a truck stop and the nozzle has an additional collar at the end. This nozzle is larger in diameter than the opening to my tanks.

Is there a reason for this? Does anyone else experience this?

Don't know, and no.

I'm curious now.

Yes had it happen once at a Flying J the other side nozzle was fine. Don't know why it was bigger.

Have ran accross this at Flying J's TRUCK islands. Most trucks fill directly into the tank so they can dump a lot of fuel at a time. Just check the other side, this way the driver can put one side on auto fill and hand fill with the larger nozzel.

BTW: You'll save a whopping nickel a gallon or so by bypassing the FlyingJ truck islands and going to the RV island - the car/RV side gets the cash rates. And, you'll never have to figure out how to stuff that high speed truck sized nozzle into our filler necks. But then again, it'll take a half hour to fill, unless you run both nozzles on both sides at the same time!

You get the cash price at the truck islands also when using your RV card.

I have experienced this at at least one Pilot station in Florida, at the truck island. Pilot doesn't have an RV island. Didn't bother to check the other side.

Nathan,
I also have no answer to your question.
But on a related topic, we have the Allstar 3950 and the drfiver's side fill hose is pinched between the leveling jack and the forward wall of the propane compartment. I discovered this the first time I pulled the trigger on one of those larger fill nozzles. The choked hose backed up the flow and at least two cups of diesel spit out past the nozzle and landed on my pants and shoes.
I washed the pants in simple green and eventually the shoes stopped smelling of diesel.
I have since learned never trust those large nozzles at full flow and of coarse never use the drivers side fuel fill.

Mine is also the 3950. The main fill hose was fine on mine but the vent lines were pinched. I purchased new line and re-ran both so they vent properly.

I guess the answer is the the nozzles are larger at times for no good reason. I suppose I can deal with that for now. Long term the answer will be to remove the hoses and open my filler neck.
