I have a new Mountain aire on the freightliner chassis. When fueling, I normally use the truck stop fuel stations (I prefer the ease of entry and exit). These stations normally have pumps on both sides to allow truckers to fill more quickly. I am under the impression that in a dual fill motorhome, I should never try to fuel from both sides at once. Do any of you try to fill from both sides at once? Can it be done without fuel gushing out from one side or the other?

Also, on my prior Motorhome (Allegro Bus with a powerglide chassis), I could not leave the passenger side fuel cap off when filling from the drivers side (again much gushing will occur). Is this true for the Newmar tanks ( I assume the fuel tanks are the same on all freightliner chassis)

Basically I wonder if there are any suggestions or techniques that help to speed up the fuel filling process. Thanks..... Bill

I have a Newmar on Spartan chassis which can be filled from either side as well. I would be surprised if you find a truck lane that lets you fill both sides at once. Yes there are pumps on both sides so that trucks can fill tanks on either side but any of the stations I have ever been in will only let you run one pump at a time not both. If you are using the high speed pumps of truck lanes you will likely find that the fill neck will not handle any more volume that one side at a time. I believe both fills connect together under coach before hose connects to tank.

Here's a tip you're looking for regarding the fueling of a MH on a Freightliner Chassis.

As you insert the fuel nozzle into the drivers side fill tube turn the nozzle handle to the 3 o'clock position and then begin fueling. For reasons unknown to me this procedure eliminates fuel frothing and the constant kicking off of the nozzle. I always use this procedure whenever using the high flow truck lane pumps. Believe me! It greatly speeds the fueling process I only have a single fill port on the drivers side of my MH. I would think that turning the nozzle handle to the 9 o'clock position on the passanger side of your coach may also work.

One of my prior motorhomes was a Dynaquest on a frightliner M2 Chassis with two 50 gal tanks. I often filled with both pumps at the same time, but I don't think I can do that when the filler tubes connect to the same tank.

With a single tank with filler tubes on each side my manual says to not try to fill at the same time. I somehow overlooked that small line and embarrased myself by blasting a gallon or two of diesel out one side. Fortunately both hoses did kick off but some was forced out.

Filler hoses on each side allow truckers with Dual tanks to fill each side at the same time. Those tanks only come together at a hose tee or solenoid valve.

Why would you want to. Besides dangerous unless you have two people helping. You may have to pay to clean up any spilled fuel now days.

I have Freightliner chassis. I usually try to use the RV pumps so I can get my 5% rebate with my Pen Fed CC. When I do use the truck pumps, I do use both pumps. Never had a problem with over spills.

When topping off I fill from the side thats the highest if the lane is not level. If level I fill from the drivers side.

If I need 80 gallons or more I fill from both sides and shut the remote/satellite pump off when I am within 10 to 15 gallons of being full and cap that side of the tank.

I like the truck lanes for ease of entry/exit and nozzle size.

Never shot anything out of either side.

We have a 2000 mountain Aire on Sparton chassis. Routinely fill both sides at same time at truck stops without issue.

I'm curious as to just how much time you save filling a 100 gal tank... Maybe 5 minutes???? Maybe I'm wrong but when I'm traveling in my coach I'm out to take it easy, slow down and enjoy.... I'm not stressing over an extra 5 mins it might take to fill from only one pump....

At 45' plus a toad, we use the truck lanes and both pumps.

Our fuel tank is 200 gallons, so it would be ten minutes for us, possibly holding up a trucker behind us.

I believe that the Truck Pumps Flow at something like 40 ~45 GPM so filling 100 gallons should be way less than 5 Minutes. Standing in line to Pay might take a bit longer.

I do it mainly to get out of the way of the professional drivers that are waiting behind me.

I would be very careful. Some of the truck fuel pumps can deliver up to 60 GPM. That is why some places have signs up for RV fueling lanes / pumps. You stick the nozzel in and fuel at full flow and more than likely some id coming out when full and it shuts off. .
