Full wall slide not staying closed
Hi,
I have a 2017 Dutch Star 4310, which has the full wall slide. It seems to come in and out fine, and looks fine when out, but when I have it shut, it seems to slowly (over 5 minutes) open up. Anywhere from 1/2" to 1-1/2". When I arrived tonight after a short drive, it looked like this.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi - Sounds like you have a solenoid that is leaking internally. It's an easy fix.

Aren't the locks supposed to stop this from happening?

I had the same problem so I called Newmar. Tech suggested I run the slideout all the way and hold the switch for 20 to 30 seconds after the slide had fully extended. Then bring the slide in and again hold the switch for 20 to 30 seconds once the slide had retracted fully. Repeat this 3 or 4 times. It worked for me and hopefully will work for you too. Good luck.

Thanks, guys. The newmar customer service guy this afternoon also said it was likely either a bad solenoid or air in the line. But before he called I started trying Allen's suggestion. After two cycles in and out, it still slipped. On the third time it sounded pretty bad, but after that it seemed to hold - at least for about 30 mins and for a short (2 block) drive. I'm now parked until Monday, will see how it does then.

Hi - Sometimes a bit of debris will keep the solenoid from sealing properly and running it in and out will clear it but often it is just a temporary fix. Where the coach is new have them replace the solenoid so the issue doesn't come back. They should replace two solenoids but sometimes they try to cut corners and just replace one. Easy fix as they just screw in and out of the manifold.

Same question, do the 2017's FWS have locks to prevent this from happening?

Hi - I'm just learning about Newmar but I believe that the electric slides can have locks but the HWH is hydraulic and don't believe that they have locks beyond the lock of the hydraulic pressure. Never saw locks on an HWH. Maybe Newmar has a different system (but that's the cause of the OP's issue). The FWS on the VT is a different slide mechanism (an electric slide and may have locks). OP owns a DS.

Never had the privilege of entering a 2017 with the HWH system that''s why I have asked, kind of confined to house these days not like days of old where I could attend shows to keep up with latest up grades, learning curve gets shorten as you get older.
Looking through this owners guide I see no mention of locks on FWS but the other slides, electric motor, in coach could have manual locks.
It is mentioned to manually retract the FWS , Chapter 13, you would open the solenoids to release pressure the solenoid have to hold slide in, if not must be bad solenoid.
Thanks for the answer and maybe someone will also have added info.

Here is a TSB for a 2016 coach with problems of low fluid in HWH holding tank for FWS causing air to be sucked into lines causing slide problems.
I have mentioned check previous years or after years of your coach may find a TSB that might cover a problem you are having.
There are TSB & Recalls for 2017 coach listed.
