So, full wall slides have been out for a bit now, how are they working out? We know of several members that have them, so let's hear your opinion.
My observations are as follows.

Pro

* Huge inside space.
* One only slide on that side.

Con's

* Loss of storage on entire side with lower basement.
* Basement access more difficult on full slide side.

So, what's your take?

Lug_Nut, thanks for askig this question. It's something I wanted to ask, but I felt like I had asked enough questions for one day.

I am torn between the Essex 4508 and 4516 (full slide) floorplans and would like to know what issues to expect with the full slide. It seems to me having a refrigerator in an already heavy full slide would put a lot of stress on the slide mechanism. Not being a MH owner, I don't really understand the loss of storage issue.

One more con:

An awful big hole in the side of the MH.

Is sagging of that span a problem?

Structural integrity?

Peter, didn't the Jetster get a full wall slide?

We can evaluate it in FL soon.

One more con:

On many RV lots the utility post runs about amidships, or mid coach for you non nautical types.

As Dirk will recall, this in fact was the case on my former lot in Juno Beach.

Given the location of the utility post and taking into consideration the full wall slide, you'd have to stay that much further away from the side line of the lot on the driver's side.

I used to "place" the utility post in that area between where the forward edge of the bedroom slide and the aft edge of the living room slide.

This afforded me more room on the curb side of the coach.

Something else to consider.....

Dirk, Yes the Jets Man did get that option, and apparently loves it. However, I will let him tell us about that.

Bob, Great point, that's why we need you here ongonig. That never occurred to me.

The structural issue is yet to be judged as the units have not been around long enough. As far as the roof structure, I can tell you that I believe there is no issue for Newmar constructed coaches as the frame is well supported. This would normally rebound into a weight issue. That in fact may be a real issue on some chassis's, the K-3 not being one.

Anyway, great input.

I saw a MH with a full wall slide and I won't mention the name, but the initials are Fleetwood that had a definite sag in the roof with the slide extended.

Hmmmmmm....... Dirk, better be careful, there are forensic like members that can actually decipher those encrypted intitials. But, don't worry, most of us really gotta' ask, so which manufacturer are you talking about?

LUG_NUT Placed the same question on another site, and in reading it some mentioned some of the large slides use electric motors, some 2 motors, some use hydrolic. Does any one know on this newmar site what newmar uses to move the large slide? We are playing with the idea of ordering a 2009 Dutch Aire 4331. (full slide w bath & 1/2)...VACMAN

We should watch the full wall slided coaches the next couple of years to see if issues pop up with out the added rigidity of studwalls in between slides.Lets say after 50000 miles.If it works over time maybe we can have two full wall slides.!! WOW

I would think that getting into the water/sewer hookup bay (with slide extended) would be quite awkward.

Good point. For those that stay in one location for an extended time, like many of us, it might well be a pain. I usually dump my tanks every 6 or 7 days. I for one would not like to duck under the slide and retracting each time may not be the best either.
