"Fun with Fuses"

Wow, I just had a two day journey thru the land of "hide the fuse". Was hooking up some electronics using the cb wiring leads provided by Newmar and inadvertently shorted the wires together (didn't realize they were hot - assumed they were activated by ignition) and blew a fuse. My dash radio and the leads I was dealing with lost power so I started looking for the fuse. To make a long story short, I checked the main fuse box under the dash, the main box and relay box under the hood and even called the service manager at my dealer for some help - he said it was under the hood. Checked every fuse in all locations and found all ok. At the end of my wits, I decided to contort myself around between the bottom of the dash and the driver's seat and with a trouble light look up under the dash for an in-line fuse. Lo and behold - there was another fuse box not mentioned in the manual fastened to the firewall and yes, that's where my blown fuse was located.

Moral of the story, If you blow a fuse, good luck finding it - guess you had to be at the factory when they built it to know where they hide things.

In the older units we have a panel on top of dash that had access to most fuses and relays as you stated. Your LP Detector may be wrapped up in bundle of wiring outside near firewall drivers side its a 1 amp.

I too, blew a fuse changing out my radio.

Looked all through the main fuse panel, both the Spartan one and the Newmar one. Nothing..........

Tried under the dash - no fuses there!

Was hooking up my shore power line yesterday and guess what - there is a fues box in that compartment!!! It holds radio and other minor fuses..........STRANGE PLACE for a radio fuse........so far away from the radio or any of its wiring.........

There are about 6 or so fuses there........all minor power level things, mostly from the front of the coach. Looks like an after-thought.....

Had a fuse blow for left directional on toad. Look for a week could not find it. Finely went to the Camping World 1/2 mile from CG and he told me it was a fuse and keep looking, well 2 days later when we were leaving went back to CW. They spent over an hour and we even called Newmar, fuse was no where to be found half hour later found the fuse and yes it was right in front of us all the time.
Charge from Camping World was $0 as they said they should have known where it was.
OK I take back some of the bad things I said about them.

In addition to the hidden fuse panels (Short story follows) they many chunks of "junque" (That's junk with class) have in-line or internal fuses.

Short story: I thought I knew where all the fuses were in my rig... Opened a box I'd never looked in before and what did I find... You guessed it, More fuses.

Good thing none of 'em were blown.

Most Newmar's I have owned have all fuse locations documented and the wiring if you look closely will have stamping on wires to indicate what the wires are for and distant location it goes to.
