There's an inch (approx) wide gasket above my gutters on both sides of
my 98 Mt. Aire. I got a new roof installed last year but overlooked the condition of this all-important protection. It is coming loose, it's worn, it needs to be replaced. First of all, what is this called? It fits into an elongated C-shaped
aluminum whatsis that runs the entire length on both sides of my 38 foot coach, just above the gutter. See the arrow in the photo.
And, where do I get it? I might know a place nearby that supplies these
oddments, but I need to know what it's called. We had a mighty downpour
last week and I know some water seeped in. I've covered the worst spots with black tape in the meantime.
Many thanks.

I have a 1997 M/A and just put new rubber on mine. What you are talking about is a rubber boot that goes over it, comes in different lengths. I got mine at a RV surplus store, comes in big rolls just measure out what you need. it will just pop in. once you get it you will see how it goes in.

If your talking about the vinyl insert that fits into the alum. strip, I believe it's call "vinyl screw cover".

I think you've both nailed it. It does pop right in (or out when it's dried out and hard like mine). Do you use any sealant or glue to keep it in? I can see where a rubber mallet
would be useful and I could just go along and tap tap from back to front. Vinyl screw cover
sounds like the right nomenclature, as the metallic strip under the rubber is screwed into
the RV roof. Thanks!

Here is a link to what you are looking for, when you replace it cut it long until its been exposed to the sun and weather than trim.
There are different grades and sizes I'd get the expensive one that fits.
It will just snap in when right size and you can also use some around some showers in some RV's.

I spoke to an RV dealer yesterday who has this stuff in stock. HE told me that a worn
or broken gasket would not have anything to do with my small leak. Opinions? I 'm trying to track down two small seeps that happened during our last giant rainstorm.

Replace it and see what happens. While replacing it look for rusty or loose screws that water could be seeping in on.
Was this the 1st rain after the new roof? If so, check for issue with the installation in that general area.
Good luck - it may take a long time to figure this out, just don't give up.

An excellent idea, Tomwalt. This isn't our first rain. But it was a big one. I have another suspect, but that's another issue for another post. Oh well, how do you patch tears in canvas awnings. This one looks more like a crack. It's not progressing but it is directlly over the exterior utility light. Water drips straight down onto the light, which is exactly on a line with the leak inside. Going to do some tracing today.

I don't know, but I'm sure someone will come on and help with the answer.
