Generator protector piece

Clearly, I don't know what it's called, but it is a piece of plastic or nylon that fits above the generator that is designed to keep the weather and debris out..
Anyway, the plastic has cracked, and I'm thinking about replacing it with aluminum. Any reason why it needs to be plastic or nylon or whatever it is made from? I think a piece of aluminum may be easier to find locally.
There's a rubber piece that fits at the edge also, it is in good shape.
Either way, it needs replacement. Anyone???
Thanks

Out of curiosity, what Model and year Newmar do you have. I have nothing like that on my 2016 Dutch Star
