Generator shutting down-Onan gas 6500

Generator runs fine when driving motorhome at night. During the day, when the weather is hotter, it shuts off. When parked, it will run fine during the day. It's like when driving and running generator its just too much heat for it. Any suggestions?

Also, what causes it to drain the cranking battery?

Welcome to the Newmar forum gmorse28 & irv2.
Not sure this will help but if you check the winter summer setting on Gen it may be set to winter.
Your battery drain could be caused by poor battery connections on batteries and poor ground cable connections to chassis frame for both GEN and house batteries.
Your Gen starts from your house batteries.
You will have a B.I.R.D. System that should keep your batteries both house & chassis fully charged if plugged into 110 source.

On my Gen. the oil presser switch was bad. the oil while driving would show the oil was low. work all the other time.
