Good Morning
I have a '99 Dutch Star 38' DP with Onan 7.5 kw generator and it looks like this unit is mounted on a slide out mech. There is a "T" handle located on the right side, little above the generator and i am wondering if this unit will indeed slide out. If it does could someone please tell me the procedeure to follow. I have owned the unit several years but have not needed to pull it out.
I have an air leak somewhere around the fuel tank and I think i could get alittle better acess if I slide the gen. out.
Any ifo. regarding sliding out the gen. will be most appreciated.
Thanks for your time
Roy

If it the same as the 2000 DSDP, and I think it is, yes that T-handle is to release the generator slide-out. Just pull it and the slide should release and you can pull the generator foward. Mine slides very easiliy.

There is the chance that your release latch might stick so you may have to "pull and push" to get it to release. The slide should be on rollers, and those can be gummed up causing the slide to be difficult to pull out. But, if that is the case just give it a little more "pull", and then lubricate the rollers when the slide is out.

If your crawling around behine the gen,set to look for air leaks. use caution ! My set did not lock in the out possission, If coach isn't level or someone leans on it , it may start rolling in on you. Take a big pair of vice grips with you and clamp them on the roller track to lock the gen set in place.
Air tanks are just behind the gen set , you may have a leak at the manual drain valves (3), High air pressure ! Caution, wear gloves and eye protection when your that close.
Also you didn't mention if your , Spartan or Frieghtliner Chassis, a visit to those companies web sites will get you a discription of the air system and , maintenance proceedures.

Thanks to all for the information. I have owned the coach several years but have not needed to slide the unit out.
Coach is on a freightliner.
I had to have the return fuel line repaired at the tank and The shop had to lower the fuel tank and when I got home shop found I have air leak.I believe it is somewhere around the fuel tank. It will lose all air pressure in about 11/2-2 hrs.I am going to see if I can locate the leak .Hopefully will be easy fix and I want have to return to the shop
Thanks Again for the information

The "T" handle will release the genny slide but if it is like mine there are 2 handles that lock the slide in place. One on each side in front of the genny. These handles lift up and a small round metal bar with a ninety degree turn in it needs to be lifted out of the small hole it is in. These are safety locks which also pulls the whole slide up tight. If you don't have these then the "T" handle will do it all.

Roy, the shop may have snagged one of the manual , drain lanyards and put some tension on it causing a slight leak, at the drain valve. Remember, bleeding the air can drop the suspension, be careful under there, a full fuel tank weighs about a half a ton. if a lanyard is snagged you would be better to cut it off and replace it , rather than trying to get it loose.

You might look at the exhaust for the gen. as mine has a mount after the muffler that has to be undone to fully slide the gen. out. It will start to slide out but only half way and then the tailpipe mount won't let it go any farther. YMMV!

Thanks again for the info.Pulled the "T" handle and the generator slid right out.I was really suprised as I had never had the unit out.
It all started when I had a fuel leak in the return fuel line where it connects to top of the tank. There was a piece of wood between the line and tank and it rubbed the line completly into. Had that repaired and I have had air leak since I got it back from the shop. Found a 1/4" air line that feeds the ride height valves with a smal hole where it had rubbed the frame rails.Repaire that but am still losing the air on my feronr air bags only and I have not been able to located air leak from lines or valveves.i am going to check with Freightliner in the morning and see if maybe they can/will help with troubleshooting.
I don't know if maybe the tow caused a problem or just age. 1999 Dutch Star 38' DP.
Again Thanks
Roy Jones
