Have a 2005 40' Dutch Star. GfI and outlet under cabinet in kit don't work. Have replaced GFI but still unable to get test button to work, or power to the outlets. It seems to have 110 power when checked to ground, but no power across the white and black wires! at the power source side.all the other outlets seem to work fine.
Everything has always worked fine with no changes to elet sys. Just stopped working?

You could possibly have your grounds reversed. Try switching them, & see what happens!

Good Luck

Did you find the breaker in the power panel for that outlet? Is the black wire out of the breaker (black wire) got voltage on it? Also make sure that there isn't a gfi tripped in one of the basement compartments. When you press the test button if it does nothing or you cannot reset it there is no power to it.try to find the source for that outlet (breaker panel) and start there

Unlike in a home, the neutral and grounds are separated....

Nope.. in the home, (unless your in a weird part of the country where they do separate them, but then you'd have 3 wires coming in to the house, and not 2) grounds are tied to the neutrals at the breaker box... Open it and take a look.

Check CAREFULLY the line to the outlet

you should see 120vac white to black and black to bare (or green)

If you see 120 or for that mater any voltage white to bare you have a problem.

The test and reset buttons will not work without 120vac present.

gard1941 welcome to the Newmar forum & irv2.

Take a look at this link read instructions may help. Make sure you have correct pairs of wires for load and line to other outlets.
Enjoy the forums.

Get a plug in tester that has 3 lights on it to show if it is wired correctly. There is also a model with a button to test the GFI, pushing it should trip it.

These are $5 - $10 at Home depot, Lowe's, Amazon, etc. It's faster than a meter but won't show low vlotage between ground and neutral as neon lights only above about 90 volts.

Well... True to a point

And that point is when you plug into the park's power outlet,, When you plug in then the neutral and ground are bonded, at the "Service Inlet" (The park's power distribution panel) same as in a house.

So, when you are plugged in,, there is no difference between a fixed house and a motorized house.

NOTE that this may or may not apply when generating power yourself or when using an inverter.

My generator is not bonded.. I think my inverter is.

Found problem in basewment, burned white wire, and wire nut in junction box. This is the second time this has happened it also happened on the hot water white wire in another iunction box about 4 years ago. It seem they used cheap wire nuts or the didn't provirde the right protection at the elect box. No breakers identified for the elect outlets in the coach? A lot of fuses on the 12 volt side, 110 needed more protection or some kind .

Thanks to all the replys!

Don't the neutral and the ground all end up at the same place?

I'll have to look it up, but I do believe that the Neutral and Ground in the pedestal are separate... they should even have a separate grounding rod.
