Question Ghost in the machine?

Our coach stays behind our house on a concrete slab, plugged in and usually with the slides deployed. I went out there the other day and found the bedroom TV on. (all the slides were in as we had been out of town for a few days) Thought it was kind of strange, so I looked through the coach carefully thinking maybe someone had "moved in", but there was no evidence (or person) there, plus the coach was locked with both locks. I turned the TV off and went back in the house after locking the door. Went back out there yesterday when it was fairly cold out, and the TV was on again and the rear air was running on heat. The T stat was set to cool only (74 deg) as it usually is for both zones because most days are hot around here. I called Newmar, and they didn't have any idea. I did a reset the thermostat and unplugged the TV to reset it. Hopefully that will eliminate the gremlins. Anyone had any issues like this?

Regarding the TV, is the remote an RF remote and do you have a similar TV in the house ? Maybe you are turning it on from inside the house.--- no idea about the thermostat.

The Sony TV is a common problem and other owners have reported their basement TV magically coming on when they turn an inside TV on. If you or anyone nearby has a Sony remote that could explain the TV. However, I never heard of the thermostat issue, but hopefully your reset fixed that.

I had the TV turn on in my last coach. I don't know if it was the garage door opener or a remote from inside the house, but it happened several times. Don't know what to say about the thermostat.

I guess I'll have to purge the neighborhood of Sony TV's. I thought most remotes were line of sight, but this one might be different. I really don't think it's another remote problem as the coach is pretty isolated from any other TV area. Went in today and the TV was off. Maybe I just need to hire a young priest and an old priest...

Two thoughts.. First an old TV show now in Re-Runs on one of the "Retro" Networks Dennis the Mennace.. Mr. Wilson got a new TV with a Remote control.. One of Dennis' friends did as well. I think you can figure out what happened.

Second: At the moment I have an insect issue I am fighting, They like electrical fields and have set off alarms, Prevented things from working and caused other things to work when they shoudl not

Yup, a genuine "BUG" in the systems.

Okay, first of all, to my knowledge, all remote controls for TV sets are IR (Infrared) line of sight communications, including all Sony TV's. There are no TV's that utilize RF (Radio frequency) communications.

Newmar has used on many units a passive IR transmission repeater at each TV and related components. These, in my opinion, do not work well at all. In addition, Sony TV's react somewhat to each other when cabled together as found in most motor homes. Sunshine can also have an affect on IR transmissions. It can simulate the signal of a IR transmitter with as little as a micro burst of solar energy.

So, we can probably eliminate the "Casper" theory, though romantic, highly improbable.

Reminds me of my boating days. Several years ago manufacturers began equipping mid-range boats with AC/Heating units that operated with a remote control. However, there was no security code for any of the remotes -- they would work on any boat equipped with a remote-controlled unit.

Accordingly, from time to time at the marina, when we felt some of our dock mates were sleeping too late, we would pull out the remote and turn their AC unit from Cool to Heat. Boat cabins are fairly small, it only took about ten minutes or so to roust the occupants!

We have four TV's in the coach. One over the windshield, the televator behind the fireplace, exterior TV and bedroom TV. We typically watch just the overhead TV, but find that both the outside and televator TV are easily turned on when operating the remote. I bought outlet remotes from Amazon. They're a small cube that plugs into the TV outlet and then the TV plugs into the cube. There is a remote that turns the cube on and off. I turn the two TV's I'm not using with the outlet remotes.

I do this for three reasons. One, I don't like having the TV's idling, even when off (still drawing power). Two, it keeps them from accidentally being turned on. Three, I was watching TV late one night, about 1:00am, and muted the overhead TV, but still could hear a TV still blasting. I was embarrassed to find out that the outside TV was on and blasting the neighbors.

Since unplugging and re powering the TV and doing a reset on the thermostat, I've been in the coach several times and no more issues (at least with the TV and AC). I hope the ghost has moved on.
