Girard Topper Covers

It’s day 3 and I have a new issue. Not me but our Mountain Aire. Traveling down the road through Oklahoma with gusty winds, the Girard slide topper covers on the full wall and kitchen slides are flapping in the wind. I’m trying find a ladder tall enough to check the magnets per girard’s instructions. They as well as Newmar say this a common experience an it’s the nature of the beast. REALLY!
Anybody had this issue and what do you do?

I think yours came one bracket in the middle of the topper to stop it from opening. You need two more, one on each end. This is almost a common problem and others are doing this.

Yes it is a common issue with strong gusty winds, especially cross winds.

Solution on the FWS side add two more cover stops. I haven't had as much issue with the kitchen side but just saw someone who had added two stoppers to the cover.

I went one step further and for the front and center stops that added on the FWS I modified them with this curved piece of aluminum covered in shrink wrap.

I just experienced the same thing this past week on the passenger side slide covers with high cross winds. While @ Newmar for warranty work, I purchased 4 brackets from their parts department. I have installed one on each of the short slide topper covers and will install 2 more on the long slide cover as I only have 1 at this time. Really unnerving driving down the road and hear the covers popping open.

Sounds like this could be done during factory pickup? How much are the brackets?

Great info thanks

Wow, I knew that Newmar adds on for the parts that they sell, but that is really over and above!!

Also it doesn't take much to pop the cover over the bracket/rubber stopper. There isn't much contact with the edge of the cover. That's why I added the hooks.

Well it looks like I’ll be ordering some additional brackets. On the passenger side do they interfere with the large patio awning? It’s hard to believe that with as many of these coaches on the road that they haven’t rectified the problem. Oh well still love my coach.

Referred to as an anti-billows bracket (or reverse billows), we had Newmar in Nappanee add two more (one on each end) which together with the OE center bracket seemed to have solved the issue. As I recall the cost was something like $35 total for the two add. brackets and labor to install them.

Ok so after reading this thread, I go outside to inspect my awaking and find that the rear FWS magnetic is not attached to the cover, the metal plate and screws are stuck to the magnetic. Looks like they used to long of screws and they hit the back side of the cover and stripped out. Thank you for posting.
