GoodSam or FMCA or both
Picking up our new to us 2011 Venting 3973 in Des Moines on August 21.
Dealer putting on new tires and all new batteries. Getting a 7 year/80,000 mile service plan with tire. And wheel coverage. The big question is if there is a benefit to joining Good Sam or FMCA. Any input is appreciated. The first drive is a shake down from Des Moines to New Buffalo, Michigan. Thanks

We belong to both. Each has it's place and we enjoy the rallies that we've been to.

We also belong to both. We are members of a Good Sam chapter that camp together one weekend a month. Also a member of FMCA 4 Wheelers, with rallies throughout the year. But stuff at Camping World, sp Good Sam saves a few dollars. Have bought tires via the FMCA Michelin discount program. So depending on your interest and needs, either or both can be a good thing.
BTW, strongly suggest to ensure you have a Emergency Road Service in place before you pick up that coach. Good Sam or Coach Net are the two most popular.

First. Congrats on the new to you coach.
We have both and use them.
We also have Passport America and Escapees. Only takes a couple of nights to offset the dues.

As another poster said, Emergency Road Service (ERS) is prudent. I've had & used both Good Sam & CoachNet over the 20+ years of RVing. Of the two, I prefer CoachNet.

We belong to just about everything, Good Sam, FMCA, SKP, Passport America. Dropped KOA since even with 10% off it seemed too expensive to camp there. Use Good Sam towing (but actually haven't actually used it yet - knock wood). But the group we enjoy most getting together with is the Newmar Kountry Klub. It's all Newmar owners and a wealth of information at all their rallies. People that know your coach and have probably solved the problem you're having at any particular time.

We also used to be Newmar club members as well as current Escapees.

One nice feature of FMCA is the travel insurance that will get you and your coach home in case of a death or serious illness. You have to be over 100 miles from home (I think that's the number) before it will cover you.
We went to a rally in Canada once with FMCA parked in a grass field and the rain fell upon us and the field turn to mud. One of our members decided to leave early and got stuck. As I remember Good Sam said they wouldn't cover him as he was "boondocking" at a Fairgrounds. Coach- net came without a problem.
I wouldn't travel without Coach-net.

Both - Good Sam gets you the discounts at Camping World - although you can often do better online.
FMCA - besides the benefits you read about on their web site - they are also a lobby group for the "Motor-Home" user. (...........and you get to put the cool "Goose-Egg" on the back of your coach!! LOL)
