Should the Progressive Industries EMS-HW50C be installed just to protect the shore power or the generator and shore power. I have not got the EMS yet but just wanted to know where to put it on my Grandstar.

After losing my transfer switch due to electric storm in Canada on a trip I put my 50amp surge protector between shore power and Generator. While you have wiring out of TS was easy to do by just adding a 4" junction box for wiring splice.
Some say its over kill but at lease I know my electronics in coach are all protected just in case of a malfunction of Gen.
I have this one which ever you use just get one and save yourself some big bucks.

I have my EMS wired for protection from both shore power and the generator.

However, Progressive Industries doesn't feel the generator needs to be wired through the EMS. They state that generators just don't pose that kind of a problem.

I agree with Progressive. The odds of the generator causing a problem are very low, and if you put the EMS after the transfer switch (so it's protecting from both shore power and generator), the transfer switch is unprotected.

I don't want to be buying transfer switches every year. They're expensive. Already had bad power take one out while at the Tampa Show this year.
