We have a 2005 Kountry Star 3775 and want to hook up a converter box for the t.v. But we sometimes want to use cable tv hok up. is there a way to have both available or does it need to be one or the other?

Yes, just make sure the converter box has "pass thru." You realize your converter box goes between your TV and the Wingard switch box, because you need the TV signal amplifier that is in the switch box. You do NOT put it between your antenna wire and the Wingard switch box. If you don't have a Wingard box, you have an antenna amplifier someplace in the circuit, as the RV TV antennas are typically very very poor.
So when the converter box is turned on, it does the D to A conversion like it is supposed to. When the converter box is off, it is just like a piece of antenna coax - the signal just goes thru it, and does nothing, so then you can play your DVD, VHS, Cable and such.

Welcome Davevh -
I have installed three converter boxes in my 2006 maca3743. If you look far and wide - or use google or thefind.com you can get the boxes for only the cost of the gov. coupons and shipping.
I ilke the winegard box. The last two I bought I paid $.01 + minimal shipping.
Yes, connect the box between your Winegard switch box and the TV. Use the remote with the converter and the Winegard batwind antenna and you will be amazed with the number of channels and the quality of the image. You might also like the "new" channels you have with digital TV.
Good luck and welcome -
Bill

Hi davevh,
Welcome to iRV2.
My coach is similar to yours. I have installed two converter boxes, one for each TV. Like previously posted, the converter box should be the last thing before the TV gets the signal.

A correction to the "Blue Ribbon" write-up.
The TV amplifier is Not in the "switchbox",the amplifier is inside the antenna up on the roof!
The switchbox only sends 12VDC to the antenna to power the amplifier, that is why the converter box must be installed between the switchbox and the TV.

Glad to see your posting. I knew that, but have had a real bad time trying to convince a local RV dealer and repair of this. He was insisting that the Amplifier was in the switch!! As you said, the switch does only two things, Supplies 12v to the antenna, and as an A-B switch between antenna and cable, with a built in splitter for an extra TV.
