Heat Pump / Furnace Anomaly?

Last night I set the heat pump for Zone 1 at 72 degrees and Zone 2 was off. This morning when I woke up, both the heat pump and the furnace were both on in Zone 1. I thought that was unusual so I looked at the Dometic control pad and the Mode indicator for Zone 1 was toggling between "HP" and "Furn". Did it go into this toggle mode due to low temps or is this not operating properly?

Did you check that Zone 1 fan was set to automatic? HP should not come on if Furnace is selected.

What was the outside temp? Typically a HP will switch to auxillary heat if the outside temps drop below the where it can be affective. It will also default to aux heat if the inside temp is greater than 2 degree below the set point.
Would either of those conditions apply to your circumstance?

OK, based on your input (Algoma, Selah) I think I figured out what I did wrong and also what happened this morning. Last night, I did set the thermostat to Heat Pump, but I also set the fan speed to low instead of setting it to automatic. This meant that the fan was always running and, in the morning, when it was really cold, the heat pump diverted to the furnace, hence the blinking HP/FURN on the Dometic panel. Since the fan was running from up top (ceiling vents) and the furnace was running through the vents closer to the floor, that's why I thought both the heat pump and the furnace were running simultaneously.

thats how mine work, if the HP cant change temps within a set time frame to a set degree change it will switch to the lp powered heat.

i think after three times, it will lock out for a set time period and only run the lp heat.

i have to go find the booklet

If it automatically swaps to getting heat basically from Oasis (aka furnace) What happens if you have switches set to off?

Then you get no heat.

If you're below 40 degrees and have your Oasis shut off, you kind of deserve what happens to you.

Ok so how do you leave your switches on Oasis, so I can learn and not be ridiculed, for not knowing!

It's a rocker switch, flip it and it stays on.

If I turn the burner switch to on, it stays that way till I change it.

If I turn electric element switch to 1 element on, it stays that way till I change it. Same if I flip the electric element switch to 2 elements.

If any of those switches are in the on position, the Oasis is live and hot. Provided you haven't shut the main power button, on the Oasis itself, off.

If you did accidentally turn the master power switch off, none of the lights on the inside switch panel will light up.

To add to John's comment above, how are you getting hot water? You have to have at least the burner switch (or one or both electric elements) on to provide hot water so normally your heating would come on without doing anything extra.

In my case the MH is in shed and not in use. I just set the thermostat at 60 on HP. I am not using hot water, but so I need to turn the rocker setting on setting 1 at least in case HP will not keep up. This is what I am getting from this post.

I doubt 1 element will keep up, you need to use 2 in my opinion but even that may not get you to 60 in very cold weather. Obviously you don't want to have the diesel burner to come on if it's inside. I set mine to 50 and don't even bother with the heat pumps.
