Help inverter/charger XANTREX RC 7 NOT WORKING

Inverter/charger will not work driving down the road
Unless you start the generator...
Also, works ok if plugged into external power in RV park... All lights are off on the panel with engine running only and refrigerator shows no DC power..

Any ideas???? Thanks in advance

Hi Knot-Fly'n,
When power is supplied by the generator or shore, the inverter is in bypass mode. This means one would not know if it is working or not. I do not know your specific inverter. However, there are some common items to check.
1. There is a breaker on the unit for outbound power. Check this breaker to ensure it is not tripped. The breaker should be a button or regular style breaker.
2. Is the charger portion of the unit working? Measure outbound power to the batteries. You can also measure the battery status directly from the battery posts.
3. Can the remote be used to complete unit functions? If no, the unit is off (for whatever reason).
4. Measure the incoming voltage to the inverter portion of the unit. This is when the coach is disconnected from shore and generator power.

Once these checks are made there should be a red flag pop up along the way. This should lead you to the guilty.

Thanks for the replies. The switch on the inverter in cargo bay was turned off. Don't know how that happened.!!
