I have enjoyed my Essex for the 3 years I've owned it, but one constant complaint is most of the places we camp, boy that's stretching the concept, we are never able to use the awnings. Looking around at all the Girards and Carefree hi-end awnings that all are very nicely tucked away, while all the awnings with those ugly supports are in use.

You would think the manufacturers would hire some people that actually use the rigs they sell.

that's because the folks that designed your coach
designed it to be used at them CONCRETE jungles where no tree is closer than 75 feet, the grass is well manicured, the birds are not allowed to poop in your zone and your toad is a Maserati
fact is there are some brands that you just never see at the corps of engineer parks....

hope i didnt offend anyone to much

Well I've got one of those awnings with the "ugly supports". If it makes you feel better I can't "always" deploy my awning either.

There is no cure for a camping space that has a tree 3ft. from the coach, no awning will work in that situation. I don't leave mine deployed if it rains due to winds catching it. The beach is the same senario. I could tie it down to the ground with straps etc., but the wind is still whipping at the material too much for my liking.

If the spaces are too close together you can partially extend the awning. I've had to do that at some campgrounds. I try not to stay where things are that tight though.

It would be nice to have all the frills on the more expensive coach's but the problems some items bring can be frustrating some times, manual can have a problem at times but I can use the exercise and less headache's.
