Holding tank chemicals and macerator toilets?

This is our first experience with the grinders, so bear with us.

In our old coach, we used the dissolving chemical packets to keep black tank odors under control. Since only human waste and toilet paper are allowed in macerating toilets, we can't use the packets any more.

What do experience folks use? Or, do you use anything?

I find it better to use no chemicals just flush it until clear. Use a transparent coupler so you can verify the output clarity. I have not used any chemicals for the last 3 coaches and have never had an issue with odor or anything else.

Here is my testimonial on Happy Campers. For what it's worth.....

After using no chemicals to using a few different one, I was put onto Happy Campers a few years ago. It does the job as advertised at the best price.

So my neighbor with his new Fleetwood with the macerator toilet and dumping system is telling me one day of all the problems they are having with the black tank. They had tried no chemical, lots of water, chemicals with lots of water etc etc to no avail. They had even got to the point of putting the TP in a bag and not into the toilet. Yuk,,,,

I suggested giving HC a try to see if it made any difference.
Well, later that summer he brought me over a case of beer to thank me for putting him on to HC. So he was happy and me too....

Jim I use the packets that the dealer gave me. I put one in a toilet and let it float until it breaks open, then flush. I think it would be ok to just flush as the outside skin is water dissolvable.

I've wondered about that, Stuart. Seems like if the packets dissolve in water, any remnants would dissolve too. And, the consistency of the packets is somewhat similar to...well...er...you know. Anyway, I think the macerator would handle it OK.

I'm going to try letting them dissolve before flushing and see how that works.

Thanks.

Put one of the packets in the toilet the next time you have to pee. The packet will have mostly dissolved by the time you finish.

Well, it must take you longer to pee than it does me. I've had a Thetford packet sitting in the bowl filled with water for 10 minutes and it is still there. Maybe it takes pee to start the dissolving process.

Gonna wait another 5 minutes, then will pee and flush. Wish me luck...on the flush, not the pee. That should be fine.

Can’t see why anyone would not use Happy Camper. Have never heard a complaint from anyone using it. We have been using it for over 10 years. We are in no way affiliated with HC.
