Horn Relay Help
Even though my Newmar is not new and near vintage, there are only two things I can think of that do not work. The 'air' horn is now at the top of my list. Who knows where the relay is located, and if others are close, how to id it? I am pretty sure it is under the hood on the uhh, radiator support. But if it is in the box behind the plexiglass cover, then which one? I am referring to the motorhome in my signature, 1994 Kountry Aire.
The only other thing not working, is the transfer switch-the neutral is not transferring from the Onan to the coach. Thus the previous owner installed a 50 amp outlet in a box for use with the Onan generator. I'm OK with that for now.

Since your RV doesn't have air brakes, there must be a compressor for the air horns. Find that and trace wires back from there.

Your horns may be 12v electric not air activated like mine are.
Do you have a Owners Guide & Brochure?

Bob- I do have an air compressor, but it is for the tag axle only.
007, you are right, they are 12v and not air. Sorry but the only book I got was a cookbook for the convection microwave.
Another post [somewhere] posted the schematic, but IIRC failed to show the location of the components. Most needed no ID, such as the battery, switch and horn[s]. But the switching relay had no location, and I am lost at finding the correct one under the hood.

Thanks for the links but they are of no help for the horn. I have read all of the links and mods I can find. Most are interesting but none address the problem I have now. I find it hard to beleive that I have the only coach that the overhead horns do not work....or maybe I am the only one interested in making them work. Oh well, guess this will be another project o keep me busy.
Oh, I might add, I have 'searched' the Newmar forums for a solution, but could not find one that helps.

I changed the Owners Guide for you 1997 is the oldest we have but its for the KA.
Do you have a switch on your dash for air horns, like I do for mine?
The only thing I can suggest is to contact Newmar and request a diagram for the horns they will help you out, as they have for others.
Here is a 12v fuse and wiring for newer coach's for reference that might have something.
It does show air horn fusing for gas coach and a wiring diagram with the switch on dash, and you have checked for a good ground to the horns for operation.

Yes, I do have a functioning switch on the panel for 'air horn'. Wishful labeling however as the horns have wires going to them and not air lines. [If I get real creative I may plumb in a set of real air horns I have laying around.] I'm not giving up on Newmars way just yet.
Thanks for your continuing help.

If you decide to put in some real air horns you can run the lines up the A channels by windshields and open up the panel inside upper cabinet and find wiring and area above about where the horns would mount on roof.

Hi Greg2..
I have the same year and chassis Mountain Aire and I have the same issue. Air Horns dont work...I,too, have a toggle switch on the dash labled 'Air Horn", but it does nothing.
I've wanted to track down the horn issue, but there are other issues I have to resolve with the coach and the air horns are lower on my list. Seems like everything broke at once after we got her home.
Would like to know the outcome on the airhorns.

007-What a mess of wires! My overhead compartments are almost bare. If I decide to install my air horns, I think I would install them under the coach and leave the factory ones intact.
Turbofans, Thanks for the info, PM sent. BTW, does your handle refer to aircraft engines? Just wondering......

The wires are from out of ceiling area above the over head fan motors, the wood panel comes off behind the fan motor housing.
The wires are for your front running lights, speaker's, bedroom speakers, control wires horns and what ever else you may need they all tuck up in ceiling when closed up.
