House Batteries

Looking to replace my 4 Interstate U2200's. Someone along the way suggested Costco or Sam's club.

Anyone have any experience? Will they take the old batteries?

Regards

Rmellen: Many forum members have had good luck with Costco and Sams golf cart batteries. I would have used them except that I needed sealed batteries because of the place I put them.

Pricing is very good and they are made by reputable manufacturers. And yes, they will take your old ones.

I picked up a couple of AGM'S from Sams have worked for me hold charge, when not being charged and alot cleaner slide tray, have started Gen in winter after turning on battery disconnect switch which surprised me wet cells couldn't do that.

When I needed 4 new house batteries, I debated about getting 4 AGM batteries. But I decided to get another 4 Interstate U2200's.

However, at the same time I added the Iota IQ4 Smart Charge Controller ($36) that plugs into the Iota Converter. This has made a big difference in charging of the batteries. Prior to the Smart charger, I had to keep an eye on the battery fluid levels and deal with the out gassing associated with the charging of the batteries.

Now there is virtually no out gassing and I've not had to add any distilled water to any of the batteries during the last 6 months of continuous use.

This was alot less expensive solution than buying the AGM's.

I am inclined to go with Brigadoon..unless you do a lot of boondocking and plan on using all your electrical stuff with out the gen set or shore power or the engine running it seems cheaper to up grade the converters and buy the cheaper batteries..That is what i did prior to my Alaska trip and bought wally world marine batteries, feeling they would be easy to replace for a credit if they failed. Now 2 plus years later they are doing fine and I stay plugged in when ever I am home, including all winter, or at a park..just a thought
