How do I stop the slide in different spots ?

I'm about to tackle the job of replacing the rug with floating laminate.

When I get to the living room slide area I'd like to bump the slide in a little then check everything over and repeat as needed. I don't want to let it run in AUTO just in case there's a snafu.

I'm guessing I'm going to need something like a remote starter switch to jump whatever relay controls the slide or possibly unhook the motor and use a wrench on the shaft ?

You can stop the slide at any point by just pressing the slide switch. It works like a garage door opener. You can stop it at any point. However when you hit the switch again it will go in the opposite direction, just like a garage door does. If you want to bring it in a little at a time you can stop it. Then hit the switch and it will start back out, then hit the switch again to stop it from going out. Then again hit the switch and it will start back in. Then again you can stop it at a further in point.
