I'm still getting used to my new to me coach and especially the hydro-hot heating system which I like very much. About a week ago I pretty much filled the overflow tank with coolant. When I checked the level today it was about an inch below the "hot" level. The weather has been such that I'm only using the hydro-hot for hot water using the electric element only. I'm hoping the low coolant is due to the contraction of the coolant and not a leak. I will check it again in a few day do see how the level has changed but was wondering if I should be concerned with this drop in coolant level.

My Aqua-Hot surge tank will vary 2 inches when cold and when hot. I think you are probably ok.

BigSky: Thanks, Until I can establish a baseline on the operation of some of these systems It's hard to tell what's normal and what's not especially on systems I've never owned before.

Big Sky has it right. Between hot/cold it'll be a couple inches in the overflow tank level. So, pick a condition, either hot or cold and mark the tank level (and condition) with a Sharpie pen. Takes the guesswork out of what it is supposed to be in future readings.

More hydronic guru info (AquaHot or Oasis) at the Yahoo hydronic heat group moderated by Roger Berke who is the master. His parts site (a tad cheaper than the manufacturer) is at RV Hydronic Heater Repair - Home

Remember that when using electric probe or the engine heat process the boiler coolant is activated as it is when using the diesel burner. Mine varies and I keep a close eye on the level and always have boiler anti freeze in a storage bay.
