In looking at new coaches it seems most come with Ice and water dispensers in the door. Does anyone actually use this feature? In my home, which I suspect has better water quality than a coach we mostly use bottled water, so I would expect the same on a coach.
Bottom line is I suspect it is something that will just go wrong, so I doubt I want it.
On the other hand it is a special, so if I ask newmar to delete the feature I will probably pay extra to remove what may be considered a more high line feature.
Anyone else have similar thoughts or do most people just take the dispensers anyway?
If you have the dispensers do you use them?

There are a few things in a motorhome I feel that are best left out and the ice maker and water dispenser are 2 of them. I can't count the number of times I have been asked to help troubleshoot a ice maker problem. Most of the time it is the heated line that has gotten rotten and crumbled or it is cracked because it froze or the fitting leaked or etc.
As for ice... we buy it.
As for drinking water. We got use to RO water so I installed a 5 stage RO system in may coach. My drinking was water goes through 5 micron whole house carbon filter before it goes to the RO system.
As an ex Army Medic and Navy Corpsman I have had to set up and certify water system. I can tell that some RV parks are marginal, especially those that have wells.
I just changed my whole house filter for the 2nd time in 2 months. Normally, I change every 3 months. But, we have been to a couple of RV parks and the rural water system were are on has had some water line breaks (they don't always back flush the system afte repairs).

Yes, I have them and we do use them constantly. When friends drop in it is great not to have to keep opening the freezer to get ice cubes. Additionally we use and drink the frig water as it is actually filtered twice, the whole house and the build in Fridgidare filters.

I agree with Peter.... (lugnut) for all the same reasons.
Having said that, do whatever makes YOU comfortable.
I have the very same refrigerator in my stick home that was in my LADB and I LOVE it...

Would not be without the ice maker and would have water dispenser if we had the RO type water system(don't notice the chemicals in the ice as bad as in the water-which is double filtered).

It is a definite plus for us and as Peter has aptly pointed out, the refrigerator water is filtered once more than the sink-based dispenser.
The ice is a nice convienence. Not to mention the times a neighbor has come over to borrow some when making margaritas.

I had heard Peter (Dr. Mixology) had his dispenser re-routed from the H2O line to the mobile still in the basement... Any truth to that?

Hey Paul, The ability to select cubes or crushed does not hurt either. You can have tropical punches in bunches with crushed ice. Hmmmmm........Is it 5 o'clock yet?

Hey Jeff, The rerouting of the line was of course to avoid the line from freezing within the door.

It "Is 5 o'clock 'Somewhere'!!!!
Seems the 'Fix' for my Water dispenser 'Freeze Up' is to put Styrofoam in bottom of left side Freezer Compartment so as to insulate the water line!!!
That is to-days project!!!

OK, you guys convinced me to leave well enough alone. I looked at it and thought when would I ever use it since we drink mainly bottled beverages.
Being wino's means there is not much call for ice also, so I figured a tray or two would work instead of the big ice maker. Anything I drink stronger than wine (Single Malt & Grand Marnier) tends to not get ice.
I assumed most people do not use tank water but apparently that is wrong and maybe I will decide it is good stuff. So I guess it stays, besides I would never want to reduce the likelihood of a visit from the Dr of mixology if he were in the neighborhood.
At one time in my life I was considered quite a heavy handed mixologist, so maybe if backup services are ever needed I should make sure I am ready. I may not have baby umbrellas, but there is a high probability that if I bring any significant portion of my 30+ bottle single malt collection I could become a good Dr Straightupologist.
Which brings up the question of how do you transport your booze. I assume spirits will do fine in a box on a slide out tray in the basement, but does anyone do anything interesting for wine?

Heck Bruce, I threw the clothes out of the drawers and carried the wine in there!
Actually, I carried wine by the case on my basement shelves with never an issue....
I'm now on a first name basis with the folks at the local "Total Wine" store....
If you've not tried the '03 Twomey Merlot, you're missing the boat.
