Sigh.

So, we get to my Dad's place in upstate NY. Takes 15 minutes of maneuvering to back down his driveway, then back and fill to move the RV sideways 30 feet to get it next to the barn where we can plug in. And not block the driveway. After a walk around to check the clearance for the slides, I get back in, shut down the engine, turn the key to the aux position (one click to the left), and hit the auto-level button on the HWH. Get out, chat with dad while it's leveling itself.

A couple minutes later, I go to hook up to the 50 amp outlet he installed for us. Bays are locked. Sue goes around to use the keypad on the door to open the bays. Doesn't work. Neither does the rocker switches inside by the passenger seat. Huh? I go in, and the entire chassis electrical system is dead. No instrument panel lights, nothing. Turning key to on or start does nothing at all. What the?

I unlock the bay with the key, hook up the electric, and all the coach systems (120v, 12v, inverter) are fine. But chassis is dead.

Any ideas what to look for? I'll be calling Newmar in the morning, but it would be good if I could do a little checking before I do that. I really don't want them to tell me they need to tow the coach to a shop for this.

Because it was working when you came in, my first thought is to check the battery levels and test for ground. If there is a loose battery cable, that would cause a sudden stop like that.

Joe,

Maybe the ground was not level and when you leveled with the jacks you drew too much current and the large 150 amp breaker in the engine compartment tripped. Please check and if necessary reset that breaker.

Had a similar problem, but did not ave the whole chassis dead.In the main electrical bay under driver side window where most fuses are check to make sure one of your fuses is not blown. On my essex there was a fuse labeled Batt.It feeds power to half of newmar board which is above the spartan fuse board. This would disable ignition and many dash switches including 12v recepticles on dash.Don't know if this is your issue but it's worth a check.Hope all recovers well. Resetting the breaker worked!

We're on pretty level ground here so we're not sure why the HWH threw the breaker switch, but thanks guys for all the suggestions on what to check.

Sue,

Since you were on level ground and do not know what caused the breaker to trip, the next time you are at Camp Newmar consider getting them to test and maybe replace this 150 amp breaker.

We'll be at Camp Newmar in a couple weeks, but we'll also be going to Spartan for some work. I think that's probably a Spartan item. What do you think?

If you will be at Newmar before Spartan, try Newmar first. For me, of all the vendors I deal with, Newmar points the finger less than anyone else. Being a King Aire owner, I would hope the word "no" is not in Newmar's vocabulary.

Good point. But it might be worth giving Spartan the opportunity to shine.

On mine, it's on the right side, facing you as you look in the compartment. Says "Buss" something or other on it, as well as 150 amp. Little lever turns 90 degrees to reset.
