Post IFS On Used Dutch Star 43XX Tag's; 14k vs 17K

Hello Newmar Owners!
As we continue our search for our next new to us DP, we keep circling back to 2011 - 2013 Dutch Star 43XX Tag Axles for sale. We found a very well optioned great layout 2011 DS 43XX at a budget friendly price. We also found a very similar 2012 DS 43XX with a but it costs about $40k more.

We're aware in the 2012 model year Newmar 43XX's replaced the 14k IFS with an upgraded 17K IFS. This fact leads us to the following question; Should we pass on the 2011 because of the lighter duty 14K IFS? Or, is the 17k IFS worth the extra $?

We will be traveling 6-8 months a year. Will we regret saving a few bucks? What are some of the major concerns or ride-ability issues of a 14K IFS we would be dealing with if we purchase the 2011?

Thank you!

Personally, I would be hard pressed to justify paying $40k more for a heavier axle payload; $20k maybe.

Don't know if I have enough info to offer any input here. For example my 2015 43XX has a 17K steer and they have since upgraded to a 19K I believe. But that doesn't mean mine is wrongly speced or overloaded. So, if the 2011 (after weighing) has plenty of capacity left on the steer I would have no issue at all.

I suggest you get the six digit Newmar Coach number for each coach-- Dutch Star's always start with 60. Call Newmar customer service at 1-866-379-0613. Tell them you are considering buying one of these coaches and you would like the "As-Built" axle weights. Each Newmar is weighed before it leaves the factory and Newmar has those weights in their database. You can then see how much useable weight you have between the two coaches, then decide how much "stuff" you plan on carrying. I know some owners who seem to have fit a lifetime of things into their coach, and other owners you travel amazingly light. I owned a 2012 Dutch Star, and I don't remember owners of that model year complaining of front axle overload. My memory of the 2011 and 2012 model year is they where both very similar in terms of coach features and options. Many more 2012 where produced as the RV industry was just starting to reform/rebound in 2011/2012.

Mike
