I would like to knowif there is some type of tool that will tighten up the cylinder that holds the ingnition key. When I try to turn the key, the whole assrmbly rotates. I need to tighten it up.

There are several kinds of lock cylinders.. Some of them have a standard nut on the back side you tighten with standard wrench or pliars.

Others you have to pull the wheel and figure it out.

But.. Frankly.. I've never encountered that problem.. The lock should have "Flats" on it and the hole is not round but has flat sides.. Thus it will not turn in the hole.

Oh, one other kind, fairly common for some locks (Like door locks) have only a spring clip on the back, no way to tighten. .though the spring may have gotten lost.

I am encountering this problem for a second time. I had it fixed at the factory last year. On the Essex the backside of the ignition switch is irregular and I tightened it by hand. Either reach up under the dash or take off a panel to gain access.

You can usually hold the bezel from the front and turn the entire ignition switch from the back to tighten.

That ignition switch is from a 60's Chevy -- there is a special tool to tighten -- google "chevy ignition switch bezel nut tool"
