They don't come off like the older ones in the posted you tube video but two screws and two wing nuts and it's free. The glass seems glued in so I may have to replace the tach. I just have to contact Freightliner and see what the cost is.
I don't think it matters what it costs..............need to just order a new one, and chalk it up to a lesson learned.
Bite down harder on flashlight with teeth.....
A easy fix, but costs a couple of bucks I bet......

If you can't get Freightliner to replace the glass you could send it to one of the companies that repair speedometers. I replaced the glass in a Borg Warner but that was flat glass. The bezel is glued on and you should be able to cut through that with a scalpel.

As soon as I saw your tag line, I knew I had to read the post, wondering if one of my many RVing faux pas were repeated, but not so.

On the other hand, in 2008 I did manage to tow my brand new Honda CRV about 150 miles with the emergency brake on. Took me about 6 months to take it to the dealers for repair, who, after removing the debris of what was left, replaced the emergency brakes and discs on both wheels.

Seriously. You're being a little harsh on yourself. We have all gotten self-inflicted wounds. Should be a relatively easy fix. Did you tell your wife?

Talk about self-inflicted wounds:

(I'll leave it to your imagination)

I bet that toilet cost more than my tach.

It was a $600 mistake and about an hour of my time to R&R.

"I'm an Idiot" is a big club; no membership required. We have hats and tee shirts and coffee mugs... we usually meet on days we wake up with a great idea to "improve" something, only to end up breaking everything else trying to get to it.

To be honest, I'm actually looking forward to the first ding or scratch or crack or broken thingamajiggy... there are already plenty on the the rig, to be sure, but I didn't do any of those. I need to get mine out of the way - until I do, I'll be walking on pins and needles

I have done things like that before...usually followed by my shaking of head with accompanied eye roll. Take pleasure in fixing it, oh and don't do that again!

I was looking in the av cabinet and dropped a flashlight directly onto tachometer.

Any idea what's involved to replace?

Saved myself and it only cost me $8.00!

I called Freightliner to inquire about a new gauge - $302.94 PLUS tax and shipping!!! The guy on the phone states "Our gauges are really expensive." You think?

So I decided to take a closer look at trying to take the broken glass out. It turns out it's not glued in as I initially thought.

The plastic chrome ring snaps off with a little more persuasion than one feels comfortable applying.

The glass is then just loosely laying in the ring along with a rubber gasket.

I brought the ring and broken glass to the local glass shop and they cut me a new circle for $8.00 even.

Whew...

Looks good, like it never happened, That's why I always try and take things apart and try to fix it before buying a new one, even if you mess it up more you needed a new one anyway. And sometimes you get lucky, nice job.
