I noticed a truck (pickup with a steel flatbed and ladder rack) coming up the cloverleaf pretty fast. As he entered the merge ramp, he drifted wide and caught the side of our DS as I was going by. Had to stop on a bridge, wait for the cop and pray we didn't get hit again. County cop shows up (FHP was too busy) and just wanting to get out of there, she tells me no one is charged as it's his word against mine. (he said he was in his lane, of course). Now it's off to the body shop to see if they can make it like new. I sure hope so. BTW, any recommendations for a quality dash cam are welcome.

I’m so sorry this happened headed to my hometown, I love my hometown but traffic has gotten so horrible we don’t miss it here in Lake City. I do continue to drive throughout the state for speaking engagements, however. Folks today are just plain nuts & when I tow our rig I just take my time & make folks go around me, & we only have a 32’ Jayco TT. Please don’t think badly of all of us Floridians based on this experience, but I don’t blame you if you do.

Having lived in FL since 1961, (Cape Coral, Ft. Myers, and Tampa) and ridden a motorcycle since 1966 (and still do) I am well aware of Florida drivers. It does seem to be getting worse as most of them really don't give a crap if they run into something or not. Most don't care about their own vehicle much less yours.

When entering an interstate highway:
1. On the entrance ramp, begin checking for an opening in traffic. Signal
your intent to merge onto the expressway.
2. Increase your speed as the ramp straightens into the acceleration lane.
Adjust your speed so that you can safely merge into the traffic when you
reach the end of the acceleration lane.
3. Merge into traffic when you can do so safely. You must yield the right-
of-way to traffic on the highway. Do not stop in the acceleration lane
unless traffic is too heavy and there is no space for you to enter safely.

I would agree that what Florida has in their manual to driver's is probably close to what most other States have. However, if that merging maniac is not adjusting his/her speed correctly and you are cruising along in the right lane then even though you may have the right away, you still have to adjust your speed to avoid the collision.
I'm not saying this is what occurred in the OP's situation at all.

The dash cam comes into play as evidence in Court with the proper legal legal foundation being established for its admission into evidence. It is compelling evidence and will usually carry the day. Up here in New York, if both vehicles are..............cut..................
Hope that helps

That is not always true my friend. I respond to a two car crash. Each party says the other driver ran the stop sign. Based on damage and skid marks I am 90% sure VEHICLE-1 ran the stop sign and VEHICLE-2 was hit after starting to leave the stop sign.
In addition, a witness claims that a female who is the stated driver of VEHICLE-1 (at fault vehicle) was not driving and her male passenger was instead. The male passenger has a suspended driver's license and is possibly intoxicated.
Is this report just written up with the information as stated by all parties involved and everyone goes their mary way? Only if you are a lazy Police Officer do you let that happen.
The female who insists she was driving the at fault vehicle is about 5' tall. Her boyfriend is over 6'5" tall. The driver's seat in their car is pushed back all the way. I get behind the wheel of their car. At 6'1" tall I can barely reach the pedals.
After some quiet questioning and reasoning with her she admits that the big dummy was driving and also that he ran the stop sign. After field sobriety testing he obviously went to jail in cuffs.
I didn't witness a single part of this crash. All the facts were easily proved in a bench trial.
I'll step down now from this soap box and let the lawyer respond.

Bravo for you! My take is that very few cops would investigate with that level of diligence.

Don't confuse right-of-way with courtesy.
The established lane always has the right-of-way and the merging traffic always has to yield to the established traffic.
The driver in the established lane should maintain his speed and the merging driver should adjust his speed to make the merge.
The courteous driver in the established lane will be aware of merging traffic and move to the next left lane if available to allow easier merging.
The courteous driver in the established lane may also adjust his speed if necessary near the end of the ramp to assist the merging driver.
These are things that were taught in drivers ed decades ago but seem to have been lost as common knowledge along with:
Walk on left facing traffic
Look both ways before crossing the street (even if you are in a crosswalk)
etc, etc

On my coach the rear and side view cameras are not always powered, I learned this by connecting a second rear view camera and taking the power from the existing camera (I wanted a camera that looked farther down the road behind me).
The new camera is wireless, sending it's signal to a dedicated monitor.
When I turn on a turn signal BOTH rear view cameras go dark, not just the factory one.
To me, this means that power is only supplied to one camera at a time.
So before you go buying parts to connect all the cameras to a DVR you'll want to make sure that they all have power to them all the time.
