Just had the same problem with the inside steps,
will put them on list of work to be done at the
TAMPA RV SUPER SHOW RALLY, as my unit is still under warrenty.
That way I will know how to repair/fix in future.
The nice part of having work done at the RallY is you get to see how NEWMAR repairs the problems and than you can help others the right way.

I had to have my inside steps repaired at the PDI and again within a year. I had read about the problem, before buying my 2004 DSDP, so I knew enough to check it out, before I closed on the MH.
The problem as described to me, is that there is no limiter switch on the motor. If you keep your finger on the extend or retract portion of the switch after it has completed it's cycle, the rods that go between the steps and screw into a plate on the motor will want to pull out of the motor.
The fix is to enlarge the hole that the rod screws into and attach the rod with a washer and nut.
I don't know if they did this, when they fixed my steps the 2nd time. The 2nd fix has lasted about 3 years, but I am extra careful when activating the steps, so that I lift my finger off the switch just as it fully cycles. Kind of makes me feel like Quick Draw McDraw.

Ours worked fine but never used them. So we disconnected and removed the motor, etc. and use the wasted area for shoe storage.

The interior step actuator on my '04 KSDP stopped working couple of weeks ago. When I opened the stair cover I discovered that the rear cap on the motor seperated from the gear housing. The motor stilled worked with the cap off, the gears lost alignment and stopped moving the piston in or out. I would check the motor housing at the rear of the actuator. If its broke, you might have to replace the entire actuator. I tried to fix the end cap on the motor housing but it didn't work. A new actutaor from Newmar is about $250. Hope this helps a little.
