Good Morning!!!,
Has anyone either seen or have repaired the power lift assembly for the inside stairwell on a 03 MA. I can hear the motor run but I am not getting any movement out of the stairs. Any ideas on how to get them up so one could work on them? Thanks, Walt

I experienced the same problem. I ordered my actuator from Grainger and it was about $125.00.
Also, I spoke with Newmar and the guy claimed they issued a Technical Document(?) to their dealers on how to fix the problem by shimming the unit. When I asked him to send me that document, he said it would be in the mail that day. That was about 3 months ago and I am still waiting for the document. He claims the problem is the actuator is rated at 100 lbs and when in the raised position, people standing on the raised stairs put too much stress on the unit, in excess of the rated 100 lbs.

My 2005 Dutch Star had the same problem. I jerked the cover up and put two 2"x4"s under the cover to hold it up. I got my hands under there and removed the motor assembly which had come apart. The screws had stripped out so I drilled the holes slightly larger and installed new longer screws and nuts. It took about one hour to remove the motor assembly, repair it, and re-install it. That was almost three years ago and it is still working.

Took ours out, as we never used it. Now have a great storage space for shoes, etc.

Yea, we don't use ours either so I never re-installed the motor even though I fixed it. Maybe someday, maybe not.

Happy New Year fellow RVers!!!
I finally got a chance to pull apart my stairs. I found a Duff-Norton electromechanical drive assembly. The problem was that the back of the drive unit where the gear reduction had been pulled off causing all the little gears to fall out. This had to happen when the stairs were on the down stroke. It seem that the stairs are not dropping down all the way and the drive is trying to pull them in and since it can't, the drive does not shut off but self destructs itself. I am checking out why it won't drop down properly and pull all the way in. I'll let everyone know what I find out. Walt

After you removed the drive assembly can you move the stairs fully up and retracted with no problem? If so then like many of us the problem is with the inferior Duff-Norton drive assembly. Naturally, they have redesigned the assembly after we all have the original assembly gut itself. I fixed my assembly but don't plan to put it back in.
