Installing Porcelain Tile in Coach
Maybe some of you have done this before.
I email Newmar and ask them with no response.
We would like to remove all the flooring in the coach except the bedroom area and install porcelain tile in our MADP. Is their a special adhesive or thin set they use, do they us regular grout or epoxy grout, does anything special need to be done so the slide will still work. I will need to remove everthing I can before the installation. Is their anything else I should know?
Thanks for any information.

It's always best to call Newmar as opposed to email.

I also called and they told me they would get back with me after they get the answers to my questions.

You probably should read some of the other threads regarding this issue. It seems that most people who try this become frustrated with the action/lack of action of the rollers, and the fact that the slides have difficulty moving in and out as they did previously.

Did they do something different to the slides on the newer coaches where they installed the tile from the factory?

If it possible you should tour the factory and watch them build a coach. Part of the tour is the where they build the tile floors. You can see the thinset/grout they use and you may be able to talk to the employees about what you want to do.

It is my understanding that the settings/rollers are different on the carpeted coaches and the tile coaches, and this must be remedied when switching.

Don M:
Don't know what might be required, but.....IF ya figure out the correct way to install tile, DO try to include installing "in-floor heating" at the same time. Gotta tell ya, we've got 3 zones of in-floor heat in our tile, and, it's the BEST feature since since they changed from wagon wheels to rubber tires !!!
I gotta think it wouldn't be very difficult since the heating cable/wire runs right through the grout lines. (Watched em re-locate one of our temp sensors which had been placed too near one of the heat registers so floor heat prematurely turned off). Now works great. In fact, floor heat alone, keeps coach cozy on those chilled mornings. YOU'LL LOVE IT if it's doable in your MADP. Just a thought.

I second the floor heat idea. We too have the 3-zone system and love it.
Newmar can be slow to respond sometimes to e-mails, but I much prefer that mode of communication. If they need to find answers, they can do so at their leisure and I don't have to be bothered with the phone. I've had great luck with them by e-mail.

Definitely look at floor heat ...that's the one thing I wish we had in the tiled area of our coach. Another very important thing to carefully and accurately calculate is how much additional weight you will be adding with the new tile, and how that impacts your CCC.
