The one thing that fails to be noted during these 'don't buy new' posts is that the resale of a newer RV will be higher than if you are trying to resell an older RV. So don't forget to do the math from the 'new coach' resell down the line. you can't just subtract the total loss of value of buying new, because you will be selling the newer coach for a lot more money than an older coach. Yes, the math wouldn't sound near as frightening to buy new.....

Well said Mike and Cha ... that's sure the way I see it.

Can't belive I'm posting this twice in one day... interesting info here.
http://www.myrv.us/pgs/rv/depreciation.htm
I'm not doing anyone's math for them and won't argue with yours. But buying right is the key. When dealing with the new market your starting place is 20 to 25 percent higher than anyone including the dealer thinks anyone will pay. That's a big pile of nonsense from the beginning - now start your depreciation schedule and desirability of of your make and model. There is no generalization that isn't wrong a good part of the time. That's why they are generalizations.

I agree with Mike that depreciation is not always relevant. But, if you bought wrong and want to try again without using the rv more than a year, it could be painful.

Yes, that's exactly why I would send you the blank check...you actually make sense. And yes, I have a short list of other mentors that I would trust (but verify) as well, who don't get into all the psycho babble, la la la.

Probably worst case is overbuying and not being able to use the coach due to limited financial resources.

Or you could buy less than you can afford, then have health problems like my wife has!

Boy isn't that the truth, I guess I want to leave behind my kids something when we die, but sometimes I wonder why I count my pennies when I really don't need too. Not that we're rich or anything but we have invested wisely, saved well, have a great pension, and can live very comfortable. My wife is always telling me to get what I want now because the money won't mean anything once we're dead.....
