Inverter

My Inverter has quit on me. It will not even let power through although we are on good shore power. Can't replace the inverter at this time. Is there any problem with plugging power in and bypassing the inverter.

Did you try resetting the circuit breaker on the inverter?

I believe the only way to bypass the inverter would be to disconnect both the incoming and outgoing AC wires from the inverter and connecting them together.

You might try bypassing the inverter and THEN plugging in the power

You should be fine. You are simply bypassing the inverter's transfer switch. I did this for a few days when I was experiencing inverter faults.

You will still need to charge the batteries, so you will need to keep the inverter's AC inputs connected to power.

You probably have a Magnum inverter. They have a number of fuses and resets that could be involved. A call to magnum could be helpful.

FWIW agree with Rotten-Red as that is the best way whether or not it is the only way. I would have another concern in that do you have a Inverter or a combination Inverter/Converter.

If it is an all in one does the converter section still work? You can check that by measuring the battery voltage with the engine off and no AC power. Plug the unit in or start the generator and see if the battery voltage goes up.

If the converter is working then you need to keep it powered with 120 VAC so the thing to do is move the AC output wires to the Input terminals. You will not have inverted 120 VAC but you will have Converted 12 VDC and 120 VAC when on shore power or generator.

Chances are very good you have a tripped breaker or blown fuse in the Inverter.

this works, I have done it

be aware you are likely also losing your battery charger. I just used an external automotive battery charger to maintain the batteries till was able to get inverter/charger fixed and reinstalled.
